Disgusting. No one other than a child's parents should have the authority to use corporal punishment, and even then, it should only be used when it's absolutely necessary.

Reason, respect, and non-physical consequences.

You obviously do not have much experience with young children if you think reasoning with them works.

I’ve got 3 young children, ages 4, 3, and 1. I don’t beat them.

Good, you shouldn't beat them.
