I will continue my strange interest into the Kingdom of Denmark if you are good with that Lumine.

I know this will sound crazy, but I have to drop out at this ridiculously early stage. I know how absurd it is to drop out on the day I joined, before the game even began, but unforeseen circumstances came up and I just won't be able to play, at least for now. I might be able to join the game later on, though.

That's unfortunate you're a great player

If I qualify as more experienced, I could try my hand as King Frederick. I have taken tenous nations before, mainly as Queen Regent Mariana of Spain in Wallace's King & Country game, playing as King Christain II of Denmark in your game Dynasties & Empires(my personal favorite), and playing as King William I of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Spamages Encore of Europe. There is a lot of room for conflict and playing as King Frederick could prove as an interesting game or one that is over quite quickly, but if a more experienced candidate would appear I would be happy surrendering Frederick and going back to King Vlademar.

Maybe for an event, we could have information from vessels that sailed on the wrong course that expands the map ever so slightly and allows us to see more of the world.

While this sounds good, iirc seafaring vessels like this weren't around yet.

How will military results be calculated if there isn't a weighting based on troops numbers? Or is it just based on the assumption that the Mongol Horde will out number, say, Aragon (for example)?

Exactly. The first game of this kind that I hosted (Balance of Power) did not work with military numbers either, even as we fought an earlier World War I. I think it worked reasonably well, even if it used the random number generator.

I do plan to use the dice accounting for the factors we've observed in other games thus far, but army sizes would have to be assumed.

I'd like to, but the CK2 numbers are not accurate either - I think - or depend on factors we're not account for in the game.

Good enough for me! Now get to posting your Change UK turn! Smiley

For the dice rolls, would we get bonuses for troop quality i.e. r1d6 Kingdom of Denmark (+1)

Started a CK2 game as Vlademar II in 1212, Pope calls a crusade for Egypt I join and March my 8k from Denmark to Egypt. I battle some Muslim forces siege down a few provinces, to avoid death I sacrifce one of my Mayor's I am now known a Vlademar the Traitor, next battle I run into Sultan Mohammed II of the Khawarezid (the nation Sjoyce is playing in Dance of Death) I killed  Mohammed with my axe. I ended up sieging down Jerusalem and all of Sinai, following this ragtag band of men I have met with 15k Muslim troops in El Arish and I picked up a mistress while campaigning, until I was killed in the aftermentioned battle of El Arish on March 11, 1216.

Update: about 5 minutes later his heir Knud VII was killed in battle  in July 1216

For once, I'm fairly sure I'm not one of the players in danger of dying.

Watch it be the Khan of Khan's falling off his horse and snapping his neck.

This is only the end of the first turn, and it's amazingly written. Thank you so much, Lumine!

I'll be taking a leave from the forum for personal reasons, for which reasons I can't continue as a player. I'm sorry, guys.

As it was earlier, I am still interested in the role of Frederick, unless someone better were to come forward.
The very best of luck, good sir, RL always (always!) comes first.

honestly I kinda like the idea of things moving forward with mismatched orders, failures to coordinate, that kinda thing — you certainly wouldn't have reliable means of communication in this century, so every missed PM can be a messenger who was attacked by highwaymen or eaten by wolves, and players just have to live with that.

Heck even in the 19th century Messengers were no sure bet, Special order 191 for example

I honestly have no idea what it involves but personally I don’t like retcons!! Mod narrative is law and order interpretation is subject to messenger eaten by wolf syndrome...

Yeah, retconning is no good.  It's on players to be clear about their orders.
In retrospect, it was my screwup for not being specific and I'll have to live with the possible(disastrous) consequences.

Heads up, gentlemen, I'll start writing the next turn tomorrow.

Has it been a week already? God is good!
