Hello, everyone!

Sorry I couldn't announce my candidacy live in public, so I'm instead doing it via video conference. As you can tell, I am running for Senate. Seeing as though I am running for this position, I should probably explain what I'm going to do. I'm not just gonna sit in Congress with my thumb in my mouth just so I can occupy Scott's seat. Therefore, I will take this announcement speech as an opportunity to make the five most important parts of my platform loud and CLEAR.

Climate Change: Calling climate change a "serious issue" is a gigantic understatement. As many of you are aware, I am one of the youngest players in Atlasian politics. Therefore, you don't have to tell me and the rest of my generation that this planet is already on its way to hell in a handbasket if we don't know what we're doing. It ain't a problem that'll hurt us 100 years from now, because it's already kicking in. According to NASA, the globe's average surface temperature has risen about 1.62°F (0.9°C) since the late 1800s. That wasn't just regular weather patterns. WE caused that damage. Imagine what kind of damage we'll do down the line. Now isn't the time to slack around. We need to strengthen clean power rules. We need to expand gas mileage standards. Believe me when I say that I'm the one who wants to do something about it, the fate of my children depends on it.

LGBTQ+ Protections: As you may know, LGBTQ+ issues are very near and dear to my heart. Therefore, don't be surprised when I say that I am of the firm belief that protecting the rights of sexual and gender minorities should be expanded. One area I want to focus on is helping out this country's intersex population, and expand on protections regarding discrimination and healthcare access. However, I will also work hard to be a voice in the halls representing this country's LGBTQ+ population, something that Scott has done before me.

Everyone Gets UBI: President Pericles recently introduced temporary stimulus measures to help Atlasia pull through the COVID-19 epidemic. Rep. Spiral recently introduced a bill to implement universal basic income under the Atlasian Economic Security Act. Let me just say that if I see that bill on my desk as a Senator, I will gladly do whatever it takes to make that bill law. One of my biggest beliefs is that something needs to be done in this country to get homeless people off the street, and UBI is a fantastic start.

Access to Mental Health Services: One issue that I think is critically important is the issue of expanding mental health protection. I honestly don't think that we're doing enough to address it. As someone who has firsthand seen the damage that a faulty mental health system can do to a person, I know that we need to do everything we can to make easier access to help possible. Erasing the stigma, promoting self-care, these are things that sound like uphill battles, but in reality are very possible. It may be hard, but we can take small steps to help make the situation better. Create policies to make combating addiction easier. Establish an Atlasian Crisis Helpline for those who are in distress and/or in need of help. Make getting help more affordable. I know it's possible, all we need to do is put some action into it.

Recovery from COVID-19: I'll address the elephant in the room. COVID-19 has been hurting Atlasia's populace, economy, healthcare system, and all of our basic ways of life. It's important that when we reopen the country, we need to do it safely, carefully, and after thorough consideration. We all have a part to play. In Nyman, I'll work as hard as I can with my colleagues to reopen the country as carefully as possible. Slow and steady describes how I want to reopen.
