A far far right winger wins over a populist Democrat? Wow, you are quite the hack.

Illegal immigration helps him win. I wouldn't be talking about being a hack, you should look at yourself for it.

His immigration position is hardly popular.

I beg to differ. People are clamoring for a candidate who is hard-line on immigration. People are tired of dealing with the illegal alien crisis and would like to have someone who doesn't pretend as though these worker programs are not amnesty.

I think Murtha's record as a looney nutcase seals his fate against Tancredo who will be able to play to the hearts of people who are sick of illegal immigration.

Tancredo - 51% - 334 EVs
Murtha - 47% - 204 EVs
Other - 2%

What people?  The polls disagree with you:

Please tell me if you favor or oppose..."Allowing illegal immigrants who have jobs in the United States to apply for legal, temporary-worker status" Favor 63% Oppose 29%

"Would you favor or oppose allowing illegal immigrants who have done the following to stay and work in the United States: paid a fine, been in the U.S. for at least five years, paid any back taxes they owe, can speak English, and have no criminal record?" Favor 77% Oppose 19%

Would you favor or oppose ..."Creating a program that would allow illegal immigrants already living in the United States for a number of years to stay in this country and apply for U.S. citizenship if they had a job and paid back taxes" Favor 79% Oppose 18%

You get the idea.  A solid majority+ of Americans favor an amnesty program.

Not these Americans http://www.cnn.com/2006/POLITICS/04/03/immigration.poll/

That just measures how big an issue it is to them.  It doesn't deal with the issue of amnesty.  Did you actually read the article?

And why did you (conveniently) ignore the results of the 3 polls I posted?

I didn't ignore them, the fact they are all from one page is subject though...and nothing is conveinent about how big a pain in the ass you're being. Tongue

Anyways..

Aside from the fact that his stance is not mainstream as Tweed pointed out, how about all the people who don't care about illegal immigration? I mean, Iowa voted for Gore, almost voted for Kerry, so why would it reject a candidate much more in line with its politics because of illegal immigration? How many illegal immigrants are there in Iowa? The same is true of all the northern Kerry states you flipped, including Murtha's home state, which he would definitely not be losing. The illegal immigration issue is simply regional.

All this is coordination with the fact Murtha is the modern day version of George McGovern. People see him as a loon, Tancredo isn't much better...but I think he would be able to keep his psychopathy under control better than Murtha. Illegal immigration is a big debate regardless of where you live, the Geno's thing...Pennsylvania.

Murtha would destroy Tancredo. The maps above are ridiculous.

You think Tancredo would lose his homestate of Colorado?

Tom Tancredo should have his photo next to "Evil" in the dictionary.

But he has an "R" next to his name.

...which means he needs to be expelled from the Party immediately to avoid more shame.

Most sane Republicans don't disagree with you.
