[Colin Powell Address to 2000 Republican National Convention on Youtube. Uploaded by Educational Video Group. Link : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fmNDt7nYwTc]

"My fellow Republicans, I humbly and graciously accept your Nomination for the Presidency of the United States!"

1996 Presidential Election

Colin Powell (R-VA)/Phil Gramm (R-TX) : 308/47.3%
Bill Clinton (D-AR)/Al Gore (D-TN) : 230/42.5%
Pat Buchanan (Re-VA)/Ezola Foster (Re-CA) : 0/6.7%

2000 Presidential Election

Colin Powell (R-VA)/Phil Gramm (R-TX) : 468/57.4%
Al Gore (D-TN)/Evan Bayh (D-IN) : 70/37.1%

(I'll do Midterms if specifically asked for them, but one can ask for the current governors and senators of five states ITTL via PM. Same goes for Powell's Cabinet.)

For the last eight years, the Democrats have been out of the White House, with not a single President of the Party since FDR winning a second term in their own right. For eight years, the Republicans have controlled the Nation, with President Colin Powell creating a significant coalition of voters for the Republicans. The Economic miracle of the 1990s have shown some signs of slowing down as late as 2002, months after the 9/11 attacks that destroyed the Twin Towers and rallied the Nation to War in Afghanistan.

In just a few short weeks, the war in Afghanistan was practically over with Osama Bin Laden having been captured at Tora Bora in December 2001, 3 months after the attacks. He was later tried on July 4th, 2002 and executed on October 15th of the same year. Despite pushes from the hawks of his party, President Powell has refused to send any troops into Iraq, declaring that he wasn't interested in changing regimes, and that he was looking to enlarge the National Surplus and keep US Military Affairs to a minimum internationally.

Now, with 2004 on the Horizon, can the Democrats win back the White House and then potentially win a second term in 2008, or will the Republicans, bolstered by President Powell's popularity, be sent to Term 3 in the White House?

This seems almost set up to ensure a Republican victory.

Trust me, it ain't Political Pendulum can be wild sometimes with how it swings one party into or out of office. I apologize if the timeline I wrote made it seem like that. I was in a hurry when typing it.

Granted.

What is the composition of the Senate and House looking like? I assume it's relatively close due to Powell's victories, combined with his midterms.

The House is currently 234 Republicans-200 Democrats-1 Independent (10 guesses as to who the Independent is)

The Senate is 57 Republicans-43 Democrats.

FYI I'm listed as being Feinstein instead of Feingold.

Oof, I accidentally saw Feinstein instead of Feingold. I'll fix that

Don’t suppose I could have Ann Richards?  Sunglasses

Granted.

Anytime you wish

Question : With seven players now in the game, would it be fair to start this game or wait until there are two or more players joining?

Press Releases for campaigns are allowed to happen and, if you want, you can fill out who is the head of your campaign (Press Secretary, Communications Director, Outreach Director, that stuff). When we go into the election (Primaries and General), a player will be allowed to post POVs of their candidate interacting with their campaign on how the situation is progressing for more flavor to the game. Hope this is a great suggestion.

Either Governor Christine Todd Whitman or Senator Mary Landrieu, depending on which field needs candidates more!

Both need more candidates. Landrieu lost in 1996 and Whitman is Director of the EPA in Powell's cabinet.

Granted. He's still a representative for this bid, as he would've just became Senator if he ran in 2002.
