THE FURRY FUTURE IS NOW
Ok, so jokes aside furries actually have a pretty big positive economic impact on many cities throughout atlasia and especially in Lincoln. 3 of the largest conventions, Anthro New England (Boston), Anthrocon (Pittsburgh), and Midwest FurFest (Chicago) take place in our region.
This news report from 2016 says that in the 10 previous years Anthrocon operated it has had "$46 million economic impact through hotel rooms, meals, travel and other direct spending", at a rate that is increasing since attendance has consistently increased year after year (aside from COVID in 2020-21 when the convention was cancelled).

And of course let's not forget the artists who make a living only thanks to commissions from the modern patrons of the arts in the fandom. I think for the economic factor alone we have a reason to celebrate the community.
Now, why June 21? Well, that's a bit more of an inside joke.
