Wow, forgot about this thread.

Well, I finally caught Ides of March recently. Decent but nothing amazing.

Watched that two nights ago as well. Meh. It never really did anything unexpected and lacked real tension. I also thought the material was a bit too predictable and close to the real world (i.e. intern-fcking and White Obama).

Drive was much better, if we are talking about recent Gosling vehicles.

I've watched some more stuff. Don't feel like listing everything here but has anyone else watched The Visitors (1972)? I can't say I liked the movie but it was interesting and rather disturbing. Fairly revolutionary filmmaking for that time too, no doubt. I'm kind of surprised it doesn't have more of a reputation.

Absolutely loved it. Hilarious and weird.

Same here. I thought it was a very nice collection of action set pieces. Nothing more, nothing less.

Also the black chick was very hot.

The Darkest Hour

Yeah, don't bother.  But one thing I did learn from the six or seven trailers before it was that Liam Neeson made a lot of money this year.  Wrath of the Titans, The Grey and Battleship were all shown pretty much back to back.  The man had a busy schedule.

And he might be in The Dark Knight Rises too...

I suspect working so much probably helps him to take his mind off of his late wife.

Assault on Precinct 13 (1976)

Some of the acting was a little stiff and the ending is somewhat predictable but the action is great. It also contains one solid "WOW HOLY F.UCK" scene.

Saw New Year's Eve in the cinema, sadly enough. The things one does for women.

Ouch, bro.

The Artist

Great movie!

More silent films please! It was so nice to watch something where people weren't yelling and screaming at me!

Me too! It started off kind of slow but got more hilarious as it went along. I'm glad I'm not alone.

I wonder if Lief has watched it yet?

Has anybody seen Real Steel? I want to see that.

I have. It's exactly what you expect it to be.

The Professional

Definitely entertaining enough to overlook its leaps in logic/plot holes. Gary Oldman is fantastic (but when is he not?)!

I plan to watch Tree of Life during my next psychedlic experience. I watched The Thin Red Line on my acid experience and fell in love with the poetics, but the battle scenes bummed me out. ToL sounds softer and therefore perfect.

Yes, I imagine the use of psychedelics would help bring out that movie's full potential.

I saw most of The Grey and considering that I had basically no interest in it prior to seeing it, I was kind of blown away by it. It's a dark, interesting film with some minor problems. Why Politico has to turn it into another Romney masturbationathon, who knows? Well, okay, we know why... it's his whole schtick.

The Cook, the Thief, His Wife and Her Lover. Bizarre but enjoyable. Gambon always cool.

Saw this a long time ago. I don't remember a lot about it beyond the fact that it was really weird. May have to watch it again.

Not sure it's the kind I'd watch again, to be honest. Tongue

It does include the smearing of a man with feces and the delicacy of glazed penis for dinner.

lol. It was NC-17 in the states.

MULLHOLLAND DR.

Classic Lynch-weirdness. I had actually never seen most of it before I caught it on television this morning. Apparently it was originally designed as a pilot. I would've loved to see it as a television show but networks would've castrated it. Perhaps with the television revival that seems to be going on with programs on AMC and HBO, Lynch could be inspired to try to bring it to the small screen again. It would be a great gift for those (like myself) that miss "Twin Peaks."

How did you like The Cowboy scene?

That scene was particularly boring in comparison to the rest of the movie.

Disagree. That was one of my favorite parts.

Hilarious and excellent. Still trying to figure out if the ending worked for me or not though.

The Hunger Games.

The last half hour was a load of sh**t, though I can see how it made sense to the plot. Still, a decent watch.

Just watched this too. I had some issues with it but, overall, I liked it quite a bit. It was more intense than I would have expected it to be. This and The Dark Knight kind of prove that you can get away with a lot of serious violence in a PG-13 movie these days as long as you use a lot of fast cuts when necessary.

The Three Stooges

Wildly uneven. There were some genuinely very funny bits but also a lot of awkward/boring stuff. Spot on impressions of the Stooges by the actors though, especially from the unknown playing Moe. Surprisingly good soundtrack too.
