You need some talking points that appeal to Rs and R-leaning Indys in the primaries and the GE to win.

Hillary alienated a lot of R-leaning Indys in the Rust Belt ... and lost.

Pete is working those people right now. He’s the candidate with the highest net favourability among Independents.

How else do you guys think Beshear won a Trump+30 state or McCready came close to winning in a solid Trump district ?

You cannot win in the 2020 US of A with far leftist Democratic purity.

This is a good strategy for improving his standing among the important Blaxicasian primary electorate, but is a double-mobilizer in the GE (also motivates Trumps base).

I can't believe people are trying to make the McKinsey stuff an issue and not the fact he fired a black police chief for trying to blow the whistle on racism going on his department. The SB police department has a major issues and is strife with systematic racism that Pete hasn't dealt with in his 7 years. This should be the line of attack from every candidate going after Pete.

The black police chief firing is a totally ridiculous line of attack: the problem of complicated racial interaction in police departments have been the case over the past decades already in various US cities, some to a smaller and some to a larger degree. Pete firing the police chief was necessary to send a signal that he wants to clean things up there and that he wants a new start at the department, but it was mere coincidence that the police chief was black. He could have fired the whole police department too, but who would have done their job then ? He needed to keep some experienced people in the job ... in the end he did the right thing though: firing the head of the troublemaker police department.

Pete solidifying his frontrunner status in IA, says the NYT:

And Ms. Corkrean’s husband, Pat Corkrean, 79, was getting there as well: He still liked Mr. Biden, but he was “75 percent” for Mr. Buttigieg now, too.

This is how I see it:

IA Dems are ca. 55% moderate/centrist and 45% leftist.

Bernie and Warren get 20% each from those, Yang 5%.

Among the 55%, Pete will get 30%, Biden 15% and Klobuchar 10%.

All others will be below 1%.

It’s refreshing to see a candidate like Pete, who occasionally gets out of the leftist bubble (where no other opinions are tolerated !) and tries to understand the motives of Republicans getting more extreme (Tea Party) and now trying to win them back.
