Abrams would be a solid pick.

I like her and it should definitely be a younger Black or Hispanic woman.

If it's not her, then probably Kamala (The Cop).

Dear god please make it stop.

She would literally be a worse pick than Palin.

The list SHOULD be: Harris, Amy, Sinema, Whitmer, Baldwin

The top 2: Harris, Whitmer.

Yeah, just throw away a couple Senate seats that the Dems hold ... Roll Eyes

And Whitmer just became Governor in MI. Let her do her job there !

Who would replace Cortez as Senator in NV ?

Would there be a special election or does the NV Governor (D) get to pick a replacement ?

Considering Uncle Joe‘s advancing dementedness, I think he should pick his running gal pretty soon (to take things over once he has to check in at the retirement home).

Preferably a young woman under 50 of colour.

Klobuchar would be a Kaine style pick. Too white.
[/q]

Kaine's problem was not that he is too white. His problem was that he was to bland. Not a big fan of the Klob, but she is not nearly as bland as Kaine.

Funny username.

Almost as good as Annette Halbestunde.

Biden picked up a new endorsement today. Could be a strong pick. Millennial Asian woman, satisfies the left.

Major endorsement !

Will bring the Tulsi supporters on board the Joe Biden cruise ship.

YouGov: Michelle Obama has the best favourable ratings among all the VP candidates.

Abrams and Klobuchar are also on the positive side.

I know absolutely nothing about Val Demings, but I checked her Wikipedia page.

Interesting.

I thought "Val" stands for "Valerie", but in fact it's short for "Valdez Venita" Demings (born Butler).

Valdez Venita sounds kinda Latino too ... is part of her ancestry also Mexican or something ?

That would be amazing.

She also worked as a Social Worker and comes from a poor working-class family and later on was a cop. That's ideal for a Democratic candidate.

She would be a great pick for VP.

Val Demings is like Kamala Harris on steroids.

She's everything Kamala is, just 300% better.

Val Demings’ stock rises on VP shortlist

The Florida congresswoman is attracting an increasing amount of attention from Biden advisers, donors and congressional Democrats.

Joe Biden’s shortlist for vice president is deep in Democratic talent, filled with governors, senators and former rivals for the presidential nomination.

But one of the least-known among them is attracting an increasing amount of attention from Biden advisers, donors and Democrats in Congress — Val Demings.

The presumptive nominee himself acknowledged her appeal after joining the Florida congresswoman on a virtual campaign stop at a food bank in Orlando, her hometown.

“She is one of a group of close to a dozen really qualified and talented women who are on the list,” Biden said in a May 7 interview with an Orlando television news station. “She's a very competent, very capable person.”

First elected to the House in 2016, Demings is half of a political power couple that hails from the heart of the swing state’s swing region, the Interstate 4 Corridor, where her husband is Orange County mayor and had previously been elected sheriff.

Demings is African-American — giving her an edge in the eyes of some activists and Biden backers — strong on television, and speaks in biblically laced cadences that can bring a black church to its feet and add a potential dose of energy to a campaign that lacks it, according to polls.

“When Val speaks, you get a lot of ‘amens!’” said John Morgan, a Biden donor and bundler from Orlando. “She’s dynamic, a tough act to follow. I try to speak before her, not after her, at events.”

Val Demings is like Kamala Harris on steroids.

She's everything Kamala is, just 300% better.

Minus the name recognition. Also, if Kamala would be a bad pick because “she’s a cop” then how exactly is Demings any better?

Being a cop is a good thing for Demings. She could be seen as a "tough cop mom" to voters, which is an interesting selling point.

Besides, Demings is from the swing state FL (whereas Kamala Harris is just from CA).

The name recognition will easily rise once she's confirmed as Biden's VP choice + a few national ads.

She could be a secret weapon for Biden (not only for winning FL, but also Black-rich GA, NC and the rust-belt states WI, MI and PA which are also full with Black voters).

Val Demings currently being interviewed by the Biden team:

Quote
Rep. Val Demings, D-Fla., has formally begun interviewing with the Biden campaign for the vice presidential nomination and that the vetting process is underway, a source with direct knowledge told NBC News Thursday.

“We’re definitely on a list,” the source said.

Demings, D-Fla., in an interview with SiriusXM’s “The Dean Obeidallah Show,” said Wednesday night she was on “the shortlist” to be Biden’s vice presidential nominee, saying that she’d accept the job if offered.

“If Vice President Biden asked me to serve along with him, I would be honored to do just that,” she said.

This is not new, but in his interview with Dana Bash Biden reiterated the qualities he is looking for:

Quote
"I think the two most important things are you got to pick someone who's compatible with you, both in terms of your style -- and my style and Barack's (were) very different, but they were compatible, they work with one another -- and someone who in fact, you would want to be the last person in the room when you're making a tough decision," he said.

Quote
He also said he wanted to select someone "who will be loyal in the sense that whatever disagreements you have are between you and the president at that moment."
https://www.cnn.com/2020/05/26/politics/joe-biden-vice-presidential-search/index.html

Also from that interview, he says that the search committee has already interviewed "a lot" of the prospective candidates, and that they come from "every part of the country":

Quote
"There are women of color under consideration, and they're women from every part of the country -- so a lot of really qualified women that are ready to be president," the former vice president told CNN's Dana Bash, his first in-person sit-down interview since being sidelined from campaigning in March amid the coronavirus pandemic.

He said the four-person group he appointed to vet potential running-mates -- former Connecticut Sen. Chris Dodd, Delaware Rep. Lisa Blunt Rochester, Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti and longtime Biden aide Cynthia C. Hogan -- has "interviewed a lot of these people already." He did not say who had been interviewed.

Notice how Biden says „President“.

This means A) he’s stepping down during his term, or B) he’ll only serve one term.

Tammy Duckworth anybody? Michelle Lujan Grisham?

Grisham has a scandal right now, just like Whitmer ...

A Vice-President Demings is now needed more than ever.

She's a good cop role-model and motherly figure for young black males.

Not to mention she's from a swing state and would put GA, NC etc. more into play than a Warren or someone else.

BTW:

During his press conference yesterday, Biden said that he won’t pick his VP in July.

The 2nd week of August is now most likely, he said.

Just 2 weeks left until Biden’s decision.

I’m still hoping for the surprise Michelle Obama coup.

If Trump then attacks her, he’d be DOA with Blacks.

Demings and Duckworth would also be great, as would be a Latina.

Warren and Harris OK.

Rice would be really bad.

Val Demings is still the best and safest choice in the current environment.

She could lead and oversee police and election reforms, by having good contacts in Congress and being a former cop herself - she knows the work and what’s needed.

Harris would probably campaign 4 years to be the first female President and then lose because she didn’t do anything meaningful.

America needs a real worker now. That is Demings.

Biden would be foolish to pick Bass or Rice.

These women would shave off 3% from his current lead over Trump.

Harris and Warren would be OK.

Demings and Duckworth would be vastly preferable.

Hopefully Biden ain't that stupid to pick the controversial Bass or Rice.

This has probably been posted already, but I’m too lazy to go back 10 pages for 2 days:

Quote
New Mexico Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham (D) will be virtually visiting Pennsylvania on behalf of former Vice President Joe Biden’s campaign on Friday to tout the Democratic presidential hopeful’s agenda for the Latino community.

According to a release from the Biden campaign, Lujan Grisham will be leading a virtual roundtable alongside Pennsylvania leaders and advocates to promote Biden’s plans for the Latino community. The event is set to begin at 4 PM on Friday.

“Biden’s comprehensive plan outlines the steps he would take as president to level the playing field for Latino families and ensure Latino communities in Pennsylvania are able to thrive,” according to a link of the event page.
