Yes, it's mandatory in Austria.

https://www.gis.at/english

I have to pay 24.48€ per month here in Salzburg. Salzburg is one of the more expensive states, Vorarlberg is the cheapest with 19.78€

Additionally, I have to pay about 12€ a month for my cable TV and 29€ for my fast cable Internet.

How much do you pay ?

The Austrian "GIStapo" knows how to get their money:

Until a year ago, every household with a TV or so had to pay.

Now, the law was amended and it says: "Every household that is able to receive a DVB-T signal has to pay the fee".

Which means - because 99.7% of the Austrian area is covered with DVB-T towers - not 99% of all households have to pay now, but 99.99% !!!

Because 99.99% of Austrians have either A) some sort of TV/Laptop or other TV-receiving thing in their household, or B) are living in an area where they can "potentially receive" a DVB-T signal with a DVB-T USB-Stick ...
