I'd just like to say, since American holiday trashing is quite popular in the Senate, that making major distinction between the U.S. and Atlasia is bad.  Everything Atlasia does is based on the U.S. and its people.  Many of these holidays, like MLK, and others honor some greats for which Atlasia as we know it today would not exist.  Granted, some of these, like "School Lunch Week", are stupid anyway, but others like "Asian-American Heritage Month" are not.  I hope at least a senator will see this and vote nay.

Why should we continue to foster racial polarization in Atlasia by honoring the achievements of certain people differently depending on the skin color of the people in question?

I don't believe it is racial polarization.  Honoring the achievements of a group of people doesn't polarize them just as honoring a group of firefighters doesn't polarize them; it is nice.  Racial polarization occurs when a race is dishonored.

Being a firefighter is an occupation.  Having a darker skin color is not.

It's a group of people.  Like an ethnicity.  Having a different skin color is only part of that group's identity.  We separate people for all sorts of different reasons: occupation, religion, race, ethnicity, and a host of others.  I see no reason why not to honor their achievements.
