Honestly, its like the whole country is blind or something...

Besides being unconstitutional, a gun ban is not a magic pill that will cure all our gun related problems.

Dibble is right, it is only one part of the solution.  The main problem is the illness of the society, which is based almost entirely on a penal (violent) model.  Individuals are basically abused and threatened their entire lives, and offered nothing in the way of social services, security, or hope.  It can be no surprise that some of these working class victims lash out randomly with a gun.  Those to blame are of course the owning class.

..they seem to happen everywhere in that country.. Colorado, Kansas, Virginia, Illnois.. and not just in the Working Class Ghettos either (NIU hardly fits that description) ...

It is precisely because the universities are the meeting places and point of tension between working and upper-middle classes that these shooting occur there.  They are where many working class people get their hopes up only to have them dashed, or where many youths from the middle of the middle class discover the limitations of their class background.  Basically these folks are educated at the university about just how low in the hierarchy they are/will be, and quite naturally their reaction is 'I want to shoot someone'.

His GF was on tv stating how he's not a monster and how sweet he was.....I wanna puke.

Well obviously he's no more a 'monster' than you or I - we all have murder in us as humans.  But her point is an interesting one - most killers are quite 'sweet' at other points in their lives, and with other people.

If we wish to reduce these killings we need to get over the knee-jerk moralistic response that the killer is 'bad', and start recognizing that anyone might kill when abused in the fashion that our society abuses people.

How was this man, abused, specifically?

The same way all working-class people are - through economic enslavement.
