Why in the H--l is someone like that a Republican?!  Just sheer opportunism?

Um, no. Rice would crush Lincoln.

She's black.  She wouldn't win in the South.

The fact that she's black would hurt her more in the northeast than it would in the South, and even that's not much.

Southern whites relish the thought of a black president eh?

Oh give me a break.  I LIVE HERE.  This isn't 1965.   The south is only 20 years behind, not 40 years.. get it right

I'm only going about what I know of my own state - very few white Missourians would vote for a black candidate for president, particularly with a very moderate to conservative white Southern Democrat as an alternative.  I'm assuming it is similar or more so in the South.
