Another difficult case - family quite well off, probably in the top 2 or 3 percent, but I'm not well off.  I only make around $15k/year on my own, which is considered a lot here but I can only get buy because money is occasionally, reliably, but irregularly vouchsafed me from home.

Nearly everyone is.  By the way, I love that term - its what my friends back in St. Louis use.

That reminds me of a story - back in grad school I used to drive a taxi-cab in the evenings, and one time this obnoxious guy got in (with a group, mostly women), and sat right behind me.  Then, all the way home he kept saying 'look at this cabby, just look at him, you know he has a big dick.. you can tell cause he's so lazy - guys with big dicks just don't care about anything and don't give a , they never bother to get a real job', etc etc.  It was so strange, and I have to say dead on accurate and uncanny.

If you're able to log in to the Internet, you're well-off.

Bullsh**t.  It costs 10 baht per hour to do that here, which is about 35 cents.

...those who have racked up tens of thousands of posts saying the same thing Smiley  Anyone whose life affords them the luxury of spending several hours per day posting inconsequential messages on an inconsequential message board can't have it too rough.

I wasn't referring to myself, J-Mann, but your point is well taken - internet access of long duration and convenience is a relative privilege, though many poor people do have some internet access.

Or rather, time is really the ultimate luxury.

I dunno. You know how much free time hunter-gatherer economies tend to have? And while they're better nourished and live longer than primitive farming economies on far less toil, I wouldn't exactly call them well off by modern standards. Smiley

Certainly.  Being 'well off' is all about enslaving other people.
