It's hard for me to be excited about this. Every acre Ukraine takes back makes it more likely Vlad will go nuclear.

lmao and then immediately get his ass beat by NATO

The whole point in war is that the two sides disagree on who's evil and the bad guy, and they both call each other Hitler or Nazis.

And arguably, Truman had even less just cause to use nukes bc he could have won the war without them, whereas Russia may feel its back is against the wall and has no other choice. But I don't think they'll do it, and of course it's not justified. They still have plenty of other less extreme options right now. It's bluster.

the russkies can literally decide to order their military pack up and leave Ukraine tonight if they want, there's nothing stopping them lmao

thier back isn't against the wall lol no one's even invaded their country

You guys are arguing with Beet? Don’t even bother. Contrarianism at its worst.

But sometimes the "contrarianism" happens to be right. People ganged up on me too over the 2016 election and the early stages of Covid. Assuredly, nuclear war would be worse than both, and it's my prediction it will happen in this century - at the cost of millions of innocents - thanks to the reckless, manichean mentality on display in this thread.

If only it was that easy. Putin likely wishes what you wrote were true, but the reality is that if he did, Ukraine would likely join NATO and thered be NATO missiles 5 minutes from Moscow. Worse (from his standpoint), Putin would be in grave danger of being overthrown. And if he were overthrown, he might end up like Ceausescu. That's the problem. You think the West would help him at that point if he pulled troops out and came crawling back begging for forgiveness on his hands and knees? The reality is, if you were in his shoes and valued your life, you wouldn't surrender either. The guy is a cornered animal who happens to have thousands of nukes at his disposal.

It's not cowsboys and Indians like you played when you were five years old, and it's not some Hollywood movie where the orcs aren't even human. Russians are human too, Putin is human, and they all want the same thing normal people do. It's a delicate situation that must be handled. Hopefully resolved around nuclear war. If we can't recognize our common humanity as people then yes, we are headed for big trouble. Maybe bigger than humanity has ever committed on itself.

ok but Putin isn't a human he is a demon from another dimension just like Hitler and Saddam, he needs to be sent back to hell.

The Russians have retreated from Lyman to the NE after Russian airstrikes created a path through Ukrainian lines.  They crossed the Zherebets River into the town of Torskoye, and blew the bridge to slow Ukrainian advances.  The road from Torskoye to Kreminnaya is under constant fired from the Ukrainian Forces heading up from the South, and the Ukrainians seem to be attempting to tie Russian Forces up in fights.  https://t.me/s/rybar

Over 6k Ukrainian Troops attacked Lyman, and more than 12k (possibly 20k) took part in the operation.  The Ukrainians suffered more than 2k (possibly 4k) casualties during their offensive on Lyman.  Sources indicate that maybe 1,000 solider and a few hundred Donetsk Milita were defending Lyman, and a few thousand Russian soldier took part in the total operation (defense of the reservoir/river and reinforcement mission from the Kreminnaya direction).  The high casualties for Ukraine are the result of repeated airstrikes on massed armored divisions, and the same resulted in Cherson.  The Russian Army didn't lose anything close to 6k, or whatever BS number some people are throwing around.  I don't think they lost 6k during the whole Ukrainian Kharkiv Offensive, because the vast majority of these position like Izium was held by Donetsk Militia.

All this is justified by global elitists from Anglo-Saxon countries in the west.  It is the belief of the US, Germany, the UK, etc. that NATO's Global Initiatives are always good.

Sadly, it is consistent with every single independent non-russian state media report out of the brutality that Russian military forces brought down on the Ukrainian people since february. Sad

gotta hope they'll have some Nuremburg style trials after this conflict for sure

Putin has stepped up his war on Russia from destorying Russian pipelines to now bombing Russian bridges.  The next step of escalation would be for Putin lauch a missile strike on the Kremlin.

Once again Russia has escalated the war they illegally started, and done so by inflicting massive damage on civilians.  But when Ukraine defends himself, a bunch of idiots will say that Ukraine is the warmongering country keeping the war going.  And when Putin once again saber-rattles with nuclear weapons, they'll say it's America and Ukraine's fault for not surrendering (a.k.a. "accepting Putin's peace terms").
Well, when you're going for the high road deploying suicide bombers isn't probably the brightest idea to court public opinion.

The Ukrainians don't need to court public opinion because every thinking person is already on their side.
Maybe in the latte-sipping west. But don't forget that vast majority of the third world still supports Russia or has a neutral stance, unfortunately.

Never been pro-Russia on this, just call out what I see.

lmao yeah sure bro, one google search to find an Open Society Foundations poll conducted in July-August which showed 65% of respondents across the globe agreed that the russia is a threat to world security.

cope harder ruski

The comments are brutal. More money taken away from American taxpayers for a hopeless foreign war they have no investment in.

Okay traitor.

This isn’t helpful in any way. It almost reminds me of how people were post-9/11 if you questioned Bush’s actions at all. For months we have been sending money to Ukraine and I haven’t seen any results whatsoever. There is still a war and I see no signs Ukraine is even close to winning. Do we just keep sending them a blank check indefinitely? And would Ukraine support us if we truly needed them? Where is the cutoff here and why?

To be clear I am not defending Russia’s actions in any way, that would be ridiculous. But we need to move toward peace in some way; this isn’t sustainable in the long term and could drag out for years.

even if it drags out for years, that means the russkies are fighting over there and not at America's shores.

that's y its important to help the forces of global democracy over there fight Axis of Evil regimes before they get out of control and can do even more damage and threaten the entire world rather than just their region.

If the west had toppled Hitler in 1933 many millions would have survived who instead died due to appeasement that allowed the forces of evil time to gain strength.

Perhaps we also need to send Ukraine drones to strike Russian military targets even more effectively, including on Russian soil if used to terrorize Ukraine.

It is more than fair for Ukraine to ask for help to have the ability to do that.  It is up to the collective West to decide if they want to take a risk of providing such abilities.

hell yeah it is

imagine being afraid of nuclear war like some kind of coward pussy

Another Russian jet crashes during a test flight exercise:

Quote
A Russian fighter jet smashed into a home in the Siberian city of Irkutsk during a test flight on Sunday, killing the two pilots, Russian state media reported. It was the second crash of a Russian warplane in a residential area within a week.

The plane, an Su-30, set off a fire, but there were no civilian casualties and the blaze has been extinguished, Russia’s state-run news agency Tass reported, citing emergency officials.

a month ago the pilots were probably like a dentist and a gas station clerk or something

"Liberal lawmakers urge Biden to shift Ukraine strategy"

Quote
A group of 30 House liberals is urging President Biden to dramatically shift his strategy on the Ukraine war and pursue direct negotiations with Russia, the first time prominent members of his own party have pushed him to change his approach to Ukraine.

bunch of commies imo, hopefully they lose their seats this midterm

Montreux Convention of 1936 means that Turkey cannot allow Collective West military crafts into the Black Sea making such an ideal impossible to achieve.

ya the Budapest Memorandum was a thing too and look what happened there.

in 1991 Saddam wasn't supposed to shoot at American planes after the ceasefire agreement and he continued to do so every day afterwards for 10+ years

it seems like when the Axis of Evil just decides not to obey their agreements no one cares !

but when the good side could actually advance the cause of global democracy there are always these obstacles, smh.

The most important news of the day appears to be the surprisingly significant Russian advances in the Vuhledar Direction.    The Russians have taken all the high positions along the road from Vuhledar to Marinka, and the Ukrainian defense in Southern Donetsk is at risk of being cut-off from supplies.
