Sorry about the delay in response. There are varying institutions responsible currently for putting out forest fires, and it depends in part on who owns the land. The federal government deals with fires on federal land, the state governments deal with fires on state land, and local fire departments also often are involved. I believe that having redundancy in this is a good thing, and that a regional force dedicated to forest fire management will help more effectively stop them. Forest fire management can be a serious budgetary strain for the state and local governments, and local fire departments may not always be well equipped, so we can help to reduce the strain on them. The regional firefighters can also cooperate with other agencies, as is already common practice.
