If their was any doubt that collins would vote to confirm Kavanaugh it was put to rest when the resistance idiots attempted to bribe her and then threatened her staff.

🤔

Obviously this is some cover-ass from Collins, who we all knew would vote for Kavanaugh as long as he didn't make it too obvious that he'd rule to overturn Roe.

Republicans should just pull this nomination and just ram through another right wing judge without the baggage.

Seriously, what's so hard about that?

Their base is full of mouth-breathers who care about nothing more than an instinctual need to win. The idea of having a candidate hand-picked by Trump getting defeated by a sexual assault allegation is unpalatable because it's a sign of weakness. They're buckling in and trying to muscle their way through this just to please the worst instincts of their voters. Incidentally, Brett Kavanaugh apparently was quite fond of this approach when he was in high school.

I also find it interesting since death threats have been mentioned by numerous people on here that not a single one of them have expressed any sort of concern for the fact that Kavanaugh and his family have been receiving them as well.

Death threats the accusers receive aren't meant to garner sympathy or credit the accusations. They're invoked to explain why it's irrational and unlikely that the accusers are making up their claims. That same logic doesn't apply to any threats against Kavanaugh, which is why they aren't being brought up here.

But I guess since he's the accused he doesn't deserve anyone's concern, nor do his wife and kids, amirite?

This is pathetic.

Receiving death threats doesn't make her accusation credible, it just means there are scummy people who want to give her a scare. That is all.

I didn't argue that it makes the argument credible. I literally said that in my post. What I said is that it discredits a commonly used attack against the accusers. Those aren't the same thing.

Instead, this thing has been managed to where people now do have reason to launch false allegations.  At best, it gives people motive to inflate actual circumstances of bad behavior decades ago to the level of an unpunished sex crime.  There are those who would try this, and that will be a disaster when it happens.  But now we are in a lose-lose situation.  If Kavanaugh is confirmed, millions of Americans will believe there is a rapist on the Court.  If Kavanaugh is rejected, he will forever be a martyr by some, setting back the legitimate cause of sexual assault victims because there is little possibility of public consensus on this issue at this point.

I think America is better off if we say "No" to Kavanaugh at this point, but we have been harmed as a nation by the way this is turning out.

people who voted to make a rapist president of the united states have zero room to pontificate about How Harmful This Process Is To Our Nation here, buddy.

Y'all voted for a woman who protected her rapist husband and had no issues with the character assassination of his victims. How about we stop pretending the Dem candidate was any better?

“Rape is bad and you’re wrong to have supported a woman who abetted her husband’s bad acts and therefore I’m going to support an actual rapist and not feel bad about it” is truly a Galaxy brain take, my dude.

How funny is it that the person who's been frequently polluting this thread with takes about how there is no evidence that Kavanaugh has done anything has no problem with asserting with all certainty that Bill was a rapist and that Hillary ran cover for him despite, uh, also having no evidence  Pacman
