Election Results 2020
with your hosts, Wolf Blitzer and John King

Blitzer: Good evening. I'm Wolf Blitzer.

King: And I'm John King. And we're back to bring you more of the results of the New Hampshire Democratic primaries.

Blitzer: Indeed we are, John. We are now getting in significant results from more major urban areas, and we can now make a projection.

Blitzer: Mr. Steyer winning the New Hampshire primary as his numbers continue to improve against the Governor of Montana. Let's have a look at those.

Blitzer: Governor Bullock now eight points behind Tom Steyer, who has won his first contest tonight. As more votes come in, the question becomes, how big will Steyer's win be?

King: Indeed, Wolf, and this is a significant relief to the Steyer people after those disastrous early returns, with Steyer's campaign manager voicing her relief on Twitter, as we discussed earlier.

Blitzer: Still, definitely a trend to watch even as Steyer has been declared the winner. We will be back with more results after the break.

Blitzer: Good evening. I'm Wolf Blitzer.

King: And I'm John King. And we're back to bring you the last of the results of the New Hampshire Democratic primaries.

Blitzer: Indeed we are, John. And here they are.

Blitzer: Mr. Steyer winning the New Hampshire primary by eleven points despite a disappointing start for him, most suspect because of his seeming weakness among rural voters in the state, where there were some precincts in which he ran behind both Bullock and Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, about whom we have said little all night.

Blitzer: Governor Bullock, however, winning his first six delegates in this race, edging out both Gillibrand and Stacey Abrams for a solid second place.

King: Indeed, Wolf, but this leaves him a distant fourth in the overall delegate count. Bullock has also put significant effort into the Nevada caucuses next week, however, so it will be interesting to see what happens there.

Blitzer: Still, definitely a trend to watch even as Steyer has been declared the winner here in New Hampshire. Thank you so much for tuning in, and we will see you come Nevada.

PHASE III, TURN II: HEADING WEST

With Tom Steyer managing to blunt Senator Gillibrand's momentum in New Hampshire, the field turns its attentions to the first state with a high minority population: Nevada. Bearer of a significant percentage of Latino voters, this will prove a litmus test for all the candidates: can you appeal to nonwhites, and thereby turn them out in a general election. As things stand, Senator Gillibrand is running ahead of the pack, flush with endorsements from more than half a dozen local politicians and organizations, but Governor Bullock believes he can surprise again here after his breakout showing in New Hampshire. Ms. Abrams sees her chance to snatch a solid finish before going on to a planned romp in South Carolina, while Mr. Steyer is in possession of the momentum coming into the week. Only time will tell which comes to be most important.

Current Polling (12-14 February 2020)

Democrats
Kirsten Gillibrand - 33%
Tom Steyer - 27%
Stacey Abrams - 26%
Steve Bullock - 11%
Undecided - 3%

Republicans
Mike Pence - 86%

Other/Undecided - 14%

Libertarians
Austin Petersen - 92%
Other/Undecided - 8%

Schedules for February 12th through 22nd will be due March 14. There will be no debate this turn.

OOC (but very important): What's the status of coronavirus in this timeline? This could definitely affect campaigns after Super Tuesday, specifically the Washington primary and campaign rallies.

Significantly weaker than IRL; mostly contained to East Asia, with only a double-digit number of cases in the US before petering out.

Blitzer: Good evening. I'm Wolf Blitzer.

King: And I'm John King. And we're here to bring you the results of the Nevada Democratic caucuses.

Blitzer: Indeed we are, John. We are now getting in the first results from the state, and there's a bit of a surprise heading into tonight.

Blitzer: Senator Gillibrand, of course, the favorite coming into tonight, but look at the size of that lead, John! Gillibrand currently leading by some twenty-points in the early returns.

King: Indeed, Wolf, and this is definitely something to watch, to see if that margin holds. If it does, tonight is going to be a very good night for the Gillibrand campaign. Also of note the fact that Stacey Abrams is running fourth in the early returns, despite her stated desire to see the results from more diverse states just days ago.

Blitzer: Definitely a trend to watch to see if it continues as the night rages on. We will be back with more results after the break.

Blitzer: Indeed we are, John. We are now getting in more results, from both urban and rural portions of the state, and we have a projection to make.

Blitzer: Senator Gillibrand easily winning this state, where she garnered the endorsements of the Governor, both Senators, and multiple Representatives. Here are the results at the moment:

King: Senator Gillibrand with reason to be excited by these results, as a margin this size could leave her with a big delegate lead by the end of the night.

Blitzer: Definitely something to watch to see if it comes true as the night rages on. We will be back with more results after the break.

Blitzer: Indeed we are, John. We are now getting in more results, from more rural areas of the state, and as a result Governor Bullock has gained some on Senator Gillibrand. However, we are confident that the junior Senator from New York will be victorious tonight.

King: All four candidates eagerly awaiting that knowledge, as well as how well Mr. Steyer and Ms. Abrams do.

Blitzer: We are also getting in the final results for county delegate equivalents and delegate totals, but for the state and cumulative.

Blitzer: Despite no one having a majority at this point, Senator Gillibrand with a significant lead in the cumulative delegate totals, outpacing each of her rivals more than two to one.

King: Indeed, Wolf, but can they break through in South Carolina next week?

Blitzer: Definitely something to watch to see if it comes true as the primaries rage on. Thank you so much for tuning in, and don't forget to join us in South Carolina next Saturday!

PHASE III, TURN III: SWEET CAROLINA

As Senator Gillibrand wins back the momentum following her victory in Nevada, the focus shifts to South Carolina. While the future of Tom Steyer's campaign is in doubt, Ms. Abrams and Governor Bullock are showing no signs of giving up, with Abrams touting her strong lead in the state and natural appeal to fellow Southern African-Americans. As Super Tuesday looms ahead with all four candidates in a solid position, the question becomes: are we looking at a contested convention?

Current Polling (22-24 February 2020)

Democrats
Kirsten Gillibrand - 36%
Tom Steyer - 24%
Stacey Abrams - 23%
Steve Bullock - 13%
Undecided - 4%

Republicans
Mike Pence - 86%

Other/Undecided - 14%

Libertarians
Austin Petersen - 93%
Other/Undecided - 7%

Schedules for February 23rd through 29th will be due March 18. There will be no debate this turn.

King: Indeed, Wolf, and thus we expect Mr. Steyer to perform better as the night goes on. Senator Gillibrand, meanwhile, overperforming where polls pegged her prior to her blowout Nevada win, now in a solid second place. Only time will tell if that holds.

Blitzer: Definitely something to watch to see if it continues as the night rages on. We will be back with more results after the break.

Blitzer: Ms. Abrams now nearly double her lead against Senator Gillibrand. Pardon the technical error there, that should say Tom Steyer in third there. I'm certain our crew will have that fixed shortly.

King: Indeed, Wolf, and so far Steyer catching up, but mostly because Gillibrand is falling as more results come in.

Blitzer: Definitely something to watch to see if it changes as the night rages on. We will be back with more results after the break.

Blitzer: Thank you for tuning in, and we will see you this coming Tuesday, Super Tuesday, to bring you the results of the biggest night of the primary season. Until then, good night!

PHASE III, TURN IV: SUPER WHOSE DAY?

With Ms. Abrams's win in South Carolina, her perceived post-Iowa slump appears to have come to an end in dramatic fashion. Thus, we find that all four candidates have room for strong showings on Super Tuesday, leading to the inevitable question: who will emerge as the victor, if anyone? The natural concern for the DNC is that the field will go to a contested convention after a violent four-way split among delegates on Tuesday, but Chairman Tom Perez has remained tight-lipped on the matter, not wanting a repeat of the disastrous 2016 primary fiasco. So, the question becomes: who will emerge on top on the biggest night of the primary season?

Current Polling (29 February - 2 March 2020)

Democrats
Kirsten Gillibrand - 34%
Stacey Abrams - 28%
Tom Steyer - 23%
Steve Bullock - 11%
Undecided - 4%

Apologies for the graphics. I noticed that some of the slides had Steve Bullock twice. Just to clarify, Tom Steyer had a higher % than Steve Bullock in all the slides

You're good, mate. We all make mistakes (you can probably go back and count the mistakes I made in the primary coverage and reach double digits pretty quickly).

Election Results 2020
with your hosts, Wolf Blitzer and John King

Blitzer: Good evening. I'm Wolf Blitzer.

King: And I'm John King. And we're here to bring you the results of the biggest night of the primary season, Super Tuesday.

Blitzer: Indeed we are, John. It is now 7 PM in the east, and we are now getting the following results.

Blitzer: Stacey Abrams leading in Virginia early on while Tom Steyer is ahead in Vermont. However, we are not yet ready to make a projection in either state. We can, however, make a projection in American Samoa, where vote counting has already finished, as the US overseas territory is several hours ahead of the continental US.

Blitzer: An early call for Gillibrand, and, as we mentioned earlier, early leads for Steyer and Abrams.

King: Indeed, Wolf, and it will be interesting to see how those leads hold up, as both Steyer and Abrams have won major victories in the respective vicinities of those two states.

Blitzer: Definitely something to watch to see if it continues as the night rages on. We will be back with more results after the break.

Blitzer: Indeed we are, John. It is now 7:30 PM in the east, and we are now getting the following results.

Blitzer: We also have a pair of projections to make.

Blitzer: Stacey Abrams having now won in Virginia and North Carolina while Tom Steyer remains ahead in Vermont. However, we are not yet ready to make a projection in that state.

King: Indeed, Wolf, and it will be interesting to see how that lead holds up, what with Gillibrand continuing to lead the pack in national polling, according to recent averages.

Blitzer: Definitely something to watch to see if it continues as the night rages on. We will be back with more results after the break.

Blitzer: Indeed we are, John. It is now 8 PM in the east, and we are now getting the following results.

Blitzer: We also have a pair of projections to make.

Blitzer: Tom Steyer running very well in this new batch of states, leading or, in the case of Massachusetts, already victorious in all of them except Tennessee, where Stacey Abrams leads. He also wins the state of Vermont with about half the vote in.

King: Indeed, Wolf, and it will be interesting to see how those leads hold up, given that certain states, such as Oklahoma, are expected to potentially give large percentages of the vote to Governor Bullock tonight.

Blitzer: Definitely something to watch to see if it continues as the night rages on. We will be back with more results after the break.

Blitzer: Indeed we are, John. It is now 8:30 PM in the east, and we are now getting the following results.

Blitzer: We also have a projection to make.

Blitzer: Stacey Abrams winning Arkansas at poll closing; not a huge surprise, given it is a Southern state in a region with high African-American turnout and thus strong support for Abrams.

King: Indeed, Wolf, and it will be interesting to see how another state in that region, Tennessee, stacks up, as we are not ready to call it but Abrams looks strong there, as well.

Blitzer: Definitely something to watch to see if it continues as the night rages on. We will be back with more results after the break.
