There isn't really a "missing link" according to anyone but people who don't buy into evolution. I feel like the only time it's used is in instances like:

"If the big bang happened, how come everything didn't explode? If we evolved from monkeys, why are there still monkeys? And what about the missing link? It's all too much to think it was all an accident."
