After Bush won re-election, Republicans were indignant that Democrats dare fillibuster anything, and threatened to abolish the fillibuster.

Democrats didn't budge, and so the Republicans abolished the fillibuster.

Next year the were trounced at the polls, and 2 years later Obama was elected with a Democratic majority in the House and Senate.

The country was in crisis and Democrats took swift action, easily passing all their legislative goals, including a $3 trillion stimulus, single-payer health-care reform, eliminating the Bush tax-cuts.
