Correct me if I'm missing something here, but isn't it kind of concerning for Dole to only lead a basketball coach by 6%?

Apparently you are unfamiliar with North Carolina.  See also:  Indiana, Kentucky.

This is, after all, where Richard Petty lost for Secretary of State in an upset.

as for richard petty, i disagree with hardrcafe.  his loss wasnt an upset.  he was an *awful* candidate.  the man can barely string a sentence together.  didnt he also get into some trouble over some comments he made?

You misread me.  Of course he was an awful candidate, but he was treated as a God in North Carolina at least up to that point.
