Providing Trump will be the Republican nominee again and only these twenty candidates are going to run for the White House, who would the McCain/Romney/Clinton voters support in the primaries?

McCain/Romney/Clinton voters would mostly not be voting in a Democratic primary, IMO.

Probably not, depending whether the state is an open primary or not (or worse, a caucus), but if the R primary is just Trump unopposed and the Democratic primary is competitive, they might vote in the D primary.

Correct! And as they fiercely want to thwart Trump's plans and as the Democratic nominee is likely to win, they certainly want to have their say, too.
