Thad Cochran should definitely retire. He's old, half senile, and was never in the greatest condition even when he was younger, apparently being an alcoholic in the 80s.
Presley does seem like the most likely democratic candidate, and McDaniel came damn near to winning last time for the GOP, so he might very well win their nomination this time. In the sort of environment we're having, in a democratic wave year, I'd be predicting Presley by 1 or 2, but right now it's still probably Lean R if it occurs. Wicker vs. Mabus in the national environment we're having is probably Wicker by 8, Likely R, going to Lean D if Hood decides to jump in.

What's that obsession of Republican leaders with Bryant appointing himself?
It's not like Mississippi is a state where it's extremely difficult to find a qualified GOPer to hold down a senate seat.
I mean, Chris McDaniel is a walking talking Roy Moore 2.0.

Survey conducted by Wicker's campaign tested GOP voters in DeSoto County. Wicker has a 44-29 lead over McDaniel despite McDaniel winning over 70% of the vote in the same county against Cochran in the runoff. Also includes favorability and Trump approval and stuff like that.
64% female poll of GOP voters is junk.

Btw, it's a google survey. Ugh...
This is excellent news for Democrats if Presley is already leading.

I agree that Hosemann is the stronger candidate in both the primary and the GE. Tilt/Lean R if he beats McDaniel.

Safe R if its Hosemann vs. Espy

Likely R if McDaniel vs. Espy or Hosemann vs. Presley

Lean R if its McDaniel vs. Presley

A McDaniel vs Hosemann runoff is the hardest to handicap, but is probably Lean/Likely Hosemann.

Presley is leading McDaniel in a runoff.

This is an absolutely terrible appointment.
Honestly, when Presley gets around to declaring, this is Lean D.

Espy just sent out a fundraising email where he claimed to be UP 2 on Hyde-Smith... in a head to head race. It's an internal obviously and that's the only number provided, so I'd take it with a grain (well, maybe a mountain) of salt... but still interesting nonetheless.
This is a Lean R race.

You know, I've really been disappointed in CHS' campaign and I don't like the idea of Gov. Bryant being able to "pick" our senator for what is probably the next 20-30 years.

So, I've decided that I will either be voting for Espy or McDaniel.  Espy is definitely closer to me ideologically and while I don't support McDaniel at all, a vote for him would be much more detrimental to CHS' chances of winning.
I'd encourage McDaniel primary and Espy runoff, personally.

Turnout numbers so far for some counties reported

48% in coahoma

34% Winston

47% Hinds

38% Rankin

49% Bolivar

Source ?
If those numbers hold out, Espy could actually win this thing.
