Lee Carter goes for Blood in Virginia Gubernatorial Debate
August 21st, 2021By:
Ralph Jones In the first general election debate, State Delegate Lee Carter went on the offense for the first time. He slammed congressman Riggleman for his support of a variety of Trump policies, including repealing the ACA and rolling back the Medicaid expansion, defunding planned parenthood, and rolling back environmental regulations. Riggleman hit back, calling Carter “another open border liberal” and accusing him of trying to dismantle the Virginian Constitution. Carter’s performance gained traction online, with a highlight reel amassing a large number of views and shares of social media. The Carter campaign, in a statement, stated “we hope Lee’s performance last night clears up any doubts about who he is and how he plans to win.”

- Income Inequality:Congressman Ojeda has emphasized that he believes income inequality is the key issue facing this country, "You have DC politicians making 10, 20, 50 million dollars a year, while families in Logan can't afford to put food on the table." Ojeda has proposed raising the minimum wage and setting income and net worth limits on public officials.
- Organized Labor: Ojeda has criticized President Trump and the Republican Party's "war on Unions." As president, he has pledged to appoint pro-union judges and justices, and actively fight right to work laws passed by various states.
- Veteran's Issues:Ojeda has claimed that both Democrats and Republicans ignore the needs of veterans too much. "These men and women where ready to lay down their lives, and all we have to show our gratitude is a broken healthcare system and government bureaucracy."
