If Allan Fung carpetbags over from the Second District, this one might actually be competitive. Otherwise, Safe D.

Is this a joke? RI-01 is several points bluer than the 2nd.

He's also arguably reached the point of perennial candidate after the 2022 failure.

Current status of RI. Amo vs Rugenberg, Matos collapsed. Providence city has 63% of the vote counted by NYt estimates.

I'm going to say there are a few correct takes about this primary:

1) Don't run candidates without tangible connections and records in that state/part of the state. Republicans seemingly keep forgetting this right now, but tonight it was national self-identified Progressives.

2) Ignoring strong communities with internal ties is a losing strategy when they constitute a notable portion of the electorate. If Bernie had endorsed Cano, she probably would have won. But the Hispanic community wasn't going to abandon one their own when the reverse occurred, especially in light of point 1.

3) Given enough time to react, endorsements from national self-Identified Progressives on their own  may at present be a net negative in a large chunk of Dem districts. This is not the first time it has occurred. These actions will consolidate a majority of voters who support said national individuals behind your candidacy. But the "normie" Democrats (for lack of better term) who just want political normalcy, will be put on high alert. They will gravitate to whomever appears most electable if given enough time and lack of reassurance that said candidate is not a rabble rouser.
