The splitting of your lands among your various sons can be frustrating.  It's often pretty easy to just declare war on the younger son right away as he usually gets the lesser counties and duchies.  Sometimes (I think if they are really weak) they will accept a Vassilization (sp?) right away, but rarely.  Just don't spend a lot of coin upgrading your sh**t in the counties you will be losing, especially as your charterer gets older.

I'm still figuring the game out though, so my advice might not be on point.  I wish it was easier to.....get to know your court.  I want to be more emotionally involved in the game, but it's kind of hard to.  Sometimes it happens organically in the game, but not as often as it should and I'm pretty sure it's more my fault than the game.

Your succession law is probably gavelkind. To prevent your inheritance from being divided, change it to primogeniture, which will make your oldest son inherit all of your land. To change succession law, all of your vassals have to have a positive opinion of you, so give them honorary titles and/or send them gifts of gold. This is what I did, but later I had to change the succession law again, this time to elective monarchy, as my character had no children, meaning that my inheritance would've gone to a different family and my dynasty would've died out. I ended up getting my sister elected monarch instead.

This isn't exactly Paradox related, but has anyone here ever played any games made by the company AGEod? Their Wars of Succession, English Civil War, and Thirty Years' War games seem quite interesting, but I was wondering if anyone here could comment on how good those games (or any others made by AGEod) are before I buy them.

Just bought Wars of Succession by AGEod, and so far it is an overwhelming disappointment. The game has appalling levels of lag and barely runs at all on my Windows 10 computer, probably because the AGEod system hasn't been updated since 2005 apparently. Even when the game isn't lagging along, the mechanics and gameplay are confusing and hard to figure out. I already deeply regret wasting money on this game. Hopefully I'll be able to get a Steam refund. I strongly caution against anyone in this thread buying any of AGEod's games.

Maybe I'm just bad at the game, but does anyone have any advice for dealing with revolts? There are so, so many pretender risings and it's very annoying. Imprisoning the claimants and executing them just seems to cause more revolts, as my vassals then hate me for being a "tyrant". Having my spymaster scheme sometimes stops the growth of factions, but only temporarily.

After over 500 hours of CK2, I decided to take the plunge and try out EU4. After watching some YouTube tutorials, I've begun a game as the Huron.

As someone whose put over 600 hours into the game; I wouldn't really suggest Huron as a first nation, you won't learn many core mechanics and they're gameplay is incredibly boring for the first 200-300 years. I'd go for Portugal or England, perhaps even France since it's very hard to mess up as them.

I kinda liked having 200 years to get used to the interface and what all the buttons do without having any real pressure. However, I think I wasted a lot of points getting all of those "native techs" that disappear once you switch to a European style government. I did put everything into getting exploration and expansion ideas so I have 4 colonists now and I've made a huge blob completely surrounding the Great Lakes and down to the Ohio River, so that if the Euros (including Muslim Granada) start taking some away from me, I'll still have some power base.

Overall I'm enjoying it, even though I'm undoubtedly missing a lot.

I got into the mid-1700s and had everything from the Rockies to Appalachians, down to around Arkansas-latitude, and then Portugal and the Dutch declared war on me. I lost big battles even with 2x numerical superiority, and it all fell apart. I guess I was too far behind technologically?

So far, I like the game OK, but it hasn't grabbed me like CK2 does. I'm going to keep playing and see if something clicks.

I have this exact same problem, and it's really annoying. For some reason, my armies have randomly started sucking and we lose battles even with massive numerical superiority. I've checked seemingly everything: military moral, military tradition, military technology, prestige, infantry-to-cavalry ratio, and quality of generals; and there seems to be no problem with any of them. And yet, we still constantly lose. It's mind-boggling and extremely frustrating, making the game almost unplayable.

(I just had to rewrite this whole post since I accidentally left the page for a second. Where is the Save Draft button?!?! Huh)

I've recently been doing a game where I played as Alfonso X of Castile, starting in 1257. Early on, I pressed a claim on the Holy Roman Empire and seized it from Richard of Cornwall. Then, I went on Crusade and secretly converted to Islam. I indoctrinated all of my children and formed an Islamic secret society that may have even been called the Muslim Brotherhood.

When I died, my brother Luis, who was Catholic, succeeded me on the Imperial throne. As Luis, through a mixture of assassinations and a divided opposition, I was able to get my nephew (Alfonso's son) named as the heir to the Empire even though he was an openly practicing Muslim. To be able to play as him when Luis died, though, I needed to get the Sword of Islam DLC, which I subsequently purchased. Therefore, when Luis died, a Muslim was sitting on the throne of the Holy Roman Empire. The Empire remains overwhelmingly Catholic however, which could definitely cause some problems in the future.

For what it's worth, Paradox has also now made CK2 free to play.
