The people of Scotland shall not have Anglicanism forced upon them by the English. We Scotchmen are proud Presbyterians, and the yoke of England must be thrown off. Charles has shown himself to be a tyrannical and ineffective King of Scotland who does not understand our religious practices and our way of life. After becoming the Royal House of England, the House of Stuart has abandoned its Scottish roots. The Scotch must rule themselves, and not succumb to foreign rule from England. Therefore, I hereby declare myself King of Scotland. From now on, Charles shall have no authority in the Kingdom of Scotland.
