First we get told how racist old folks are and how ultra-liberal Gen-Xers will save the country, the next thing you know, liberals want only old folks to have guns.

To be fair, liberals also created the national drinking age, the sex offender registry, and zero tolerance schools and tend to be the ones who want to raise the school leaving age.

You are right this is absurd, so let's drop the age for those things too.

You learn how to read when you're 5-7 years old, so why can't a 17-year-old understand a contract?
