I thought the south was Independent and didn't answer to the Senate

They want to be "independent" while retaining representation. OSR wanting to vote in this body as an elected Senator and proclaiming Southern "independence" means he wants to have his cake and eat it too, or he at least is not committed to the idea of a truly independent South, which he purports to support.
