The problem with the Romney driving himself ad and the Romneys doing the laundry photo-op of a week or two ago is that they are so obviously staged for the purpose showing that Mitt is something he is not.

I believed Obama when he said he finds washing dishes to be therapeutic, and I believe Mitt when he says he likes to drive. If Mitt wanted to pretend he is something he is not, he would be doing stupid sh**t like this:

Wouldn't this photo have been more on point?

It just goes to show how badly out of touch politicians from Massachusetts are these days.

Well, that is the grand daddy of awful photo ops. What in god's name were they thinking? Nobody was going to buy that, at least not with that awful name tag on his helmet. I think without the tag, it could have been somewhat more forgettable. Take off his helmet altogether, and MAYBE it could have boosted his defense credentials. Maybe. I definitely think nobody would remember it, at least. That ridiculous name tag and helmet are what make that stunt so awful.

But yeah...there are many, many, many things Romney could be doing and saying if he wanted to pretend to be something he is not. Considering his upbringing in Michigan, and the fact his father was the CEO of a major automobile company, I have no doubt whatsoever that Romney does like to drive. I mean, Jay Leno is also a millionaire and he owns more cars than most people can find on their entire block. It is not unusual to obtain a passion for driving at a young age and have it your entire life no matter how wealthy you become. Romney's passion for driving is more believable than Obama when he said he finds washing dishes to be therapeutic. It is certainly far more believable than most of the nonsense Kerry pulled in 2004. And, of course, it is infinitely more believable than Dukakis' "I AM NOT A WIMP!" stunt.

Didn't the elder Bush (or was it Barbara) not understand the concept of a checkout line or something to that effect?  Though it's not like he was trying.

Yeah, when GHWB ran in 1988 or 1992, I think it was 1992, his campaign went on a grocery outing, or a convention or something, for a photo op and he seemed unaware of electronic scanners. Apparently nobody told him about that change during his time in Washington.

What the hell is Red White and Blue Fund and who is giving them money to run Rick Santorum ads?

Yes, who is really behind this charade being perpetrated on conservatives? Obviously divide and conquer is at play, and the ball was set in motion with the Red White and Blue Fund way back in the middle of December...

Obama's first Medicare ad: defends self and goes after Romney/Ryan
http://youtu.be/LJb6tA1cXT0

Using AARP as referee in the who is really cutting medicare battle is a smart move

Sorry, but not as effective as Romney's preemptive strike.

That ad will do as much for Romney as it will for Obama, lol.
Depends where you play it.

True. But even in the swing states, the crosstabs for many recent polls are still showing that Romney has to make up some ground with Republicans. This ad could very well remind those disaffected GOPers why Obama isn't the man for them.

The question is, will that be enough to counter-balance how this ad resonates with women?

It's setting up the narrative for women that Romney and Ryan are scary males who cannot be trusted, which will be dispelled in the debates. There comes a time when a woman decides that she made a mistake, and it's time to dump her boyfriend. A lot of that will happen among women who supported Obama in 2008, especially if the Obama team keeps blowing up this big bubble that says, "ATTENTION WOMEN! ROMNEY/RYAN = SCARY!" That bubble is going to blow up and really hurt the president's credibility among women.

Politico, your misogyny is really exhausting.

On average, women are a hell of a lot better than men when it comes to the total package (sans athletics, I suppose). Women secretly let us think that we rule the world, but we are really under their control.

Obama tried that "changing voice tone at perfect moments with flawless rhetoric" stuff during the 2012 SOTU speech. It did not help him. Besides, the broken promises of 2008 are still broken promises in 2012. Are even young people going to fall again for flowery rhetoric given the lack of job opportunities in the Obama Economy? I may be wrong, but gay marriage is not going to create jobs for young people. Taking resources from Medicare to fund Obamacare is robbing Peter to pay Paul. Unaffordable promises are now known to be unaffordable by most of the population at this point.

All of this reminds of the saying, "fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me."

Romney has a new 60 sec ad, his first direct to camera ad of the campaign. He tries to fix the 47% thing by vowing he really cares about people.
http://youtu.be/_HjDCHbtXHQ

The last few words of this ad are what he needs to keep repeating ad infinitum. It needs to be the cornerstone down the final stretch: It keeps people who would never vote for Romney from voting altogether due to rational apathy, flips those who voted for Obama four years ago but are disappointed and open to the idea of dumping him, and leaves Democrats without a response other than vague nonsense about "forward," which has about as much substance as "hope and change." They can smear Romney all they want, twisting his words out of context, but everybody knows that we cannot have the next four years look like the past four years.

Obama is clinging to 8% unemployment, one trillion dollar deficits, and $4/gallon gasoline. We're supposed to look "forward" to more of this? Personally, I think Romney should say exactly that. Call it like it is: This administration is an abysmal failure that only knows how to play gutter politics.

Where the heck do you live?  California?  The national average never reached $4 this year and it's going down.  I could have bought some today at $3.369/gallon.  If Romney brings up $4/gallon gasoline, all it will do is show how out of touch he is with swing state voters.  The highest the average is any of the swing states is $3.866/gallon in Indiana. (That's if you consider Indiana a swing state; the highest of the standard swing states is lower which makes the $4 figure even less relevant.)

Use the qualifier "approaching" $4/gallon, which it probably is going to do soon given the situation with Iran. Or talk about $3.50/gallon. Either way, you get the gist.

That ad works great in liberal fantasy land.

Everybody in the real world knows who Romney was and was not talking about. These same people are also not looking "forward" to four more years of 8% unemployment, millions more who have given up looking for work, trillion dollar deficits, falling disposable incomes, the potential expiration of the 2001 tax cuts FOR EVERYBODY, and $3.50/gallon gasoline. In the real world, you don't get an "A" grade for effort and smooth talk.

It's over, guys. Romney is going to be the 45th President of the United States of America.

Obama is expanding the radio stations in PA where he is advertizing.

They're already in Gore 2000 mode. That is, they're back to defending PA after the first debate, which means less resources for OH and FL. The problem for them: Republicans are more competitive in MI than anytime since 2000. If the upcoming polling shows a tiny gap in MI and PA, Romney is going to flood MI and PA to hedge their bet on OH and FL. Romney and Co. have been stockpiling resources for many potential scenarios, including this one, which may or may not come to fruition now...

Romney's latest in Nevada is quite devastating for Obama (how did they manage to score Greg Anthony?? I could see Karl Malone, but Greg Anthony? Wow...):

This is going to get so bad that if Obama does not recover big time in the next debate, we're going to start hearing about "Democrats For Romney"

Trying to close the gender gap in the swing states (Like I've said time and time again, if Romney reaches 48-49% among women then Obama will lose in a landslide):

Tax attack (Will House Democrats FINALLY dump that shrill San Francisco liberal after this election??? At least Reid was, at one time in history before becoming Majority Leader, an honorable man):
