Unknown Once More
an election game of the 2018 Lamarnan election

May 4th, 2018 – The "Mother of the Revolution" Nellie Hedrock has passed away at her home in Alberton last night. At the age of 106, Hedrock has led a long life devoted in service to our country, from leading the successful protests to oust Admiral Blakelee in the 1974 riots to guiding the nation during the Transition.

Prime Minister Jackie Mulbridge said in a statement, "The nation of Lamarna is forever indebted to Ms Hedrock and her lifetime of service. She was a leader who touched the souls of our people and yet was firm in her humility as she returned to life as a private citizen. An entire generation of Larmanans remember her university lectures and the knowledge she imbued.

All parties in Parliament agreed to delay the election until after the state funeral, which will be held at Alberton's High Church.

United States President Russ Feingold also released a statement, stating, "My heart goes out to the family of Nellie and to the people of Lamarna. I cannot imagine what it must feel like to lose a person so vital to the history of one's country. It is as if George Washington or Thomas Jefferson would have passed away today."

Rules:

1. Turns will last a week in-game, and 72 hours in real life. This means that, technically, each player can schedule 14 events in a turn, whether it is campaign stops, interviews, party functions, endorsements-gatherings, fundraisers, or rest stops.

2. DM me regarding endorsements.

3. You'll have to create a candidate by creating a backstory, choosing a party, and choosing positions.

4. There'll be two, up to three, stages of the game; general election and coalition negotiations, and a primary stage, if needed, for parties with more than one candidate.

5. News and such will be based on a random number generator on a scale of 100, with 0-15 being bad news, with 0 being worst, and 85-100 being good news, with 100 being best.

6. There'll be debates, not sure how many yet, but there will be some.

7. Try to have fun; I'm learning alongside you all.

Refugees: In 2013, Lamarna took in 300 Filipino refugees in the wake of Typhoon Haiyan. Recently, increased environmental and political strife, caused by the Dueterte regime, has led to more and more Filipinos to file for asylum in Lamarna. Smugglers, sailing on outdated and dilapidated ships, have transported hundreds of refugees to Lamarna's shores. The current government has neither formally granted asylum nor sent the refugees back, but many voters see this as an important issue that needs to be resolved.

Immigration: In addition to refugees, immigration in Lamarna has increased from many Asian countries, such as Vietnam, China, and Indonesia. These immigrants are from a varied economic swath, ranging from poor workers to educated upper-middle class professionals. The rate of immigration is worrying for some, as they suspect these immigrants take a significant amount of jobs. Questions over whether the immigration system should be reformed have been raised.

Healthcare: Lamarna currently has a public healthcare insurance scheme for elderly and children, as well as minor health insurance provision for the poorest citizens. Private insurance rates have recently increased rather quickly, and waiting times at hospitals and clinics have also reached a new record. Rural clinics have also consistently ranked much lower in care quality than those in metropolitan areas.

Energy: Lamarna's growing cosmopolitan areas have necessitated the importation of significant amounts of petroleum and natural gas. Many are concerned regarding Lamarna's energy independence, with some calling for increased renewables and other for exploiting underwater reserves of natural gas in protected marine ecosystems.

Poverty: Economic inequality has reached a record high in Lamarna as different parts of the country have developed. The capital metro's population has boomed, with Alberton, Sunderland, and the new city of Winter Park having very high incomes and quality of life. The city of Morganville has continued its decline as industry has continued to leave the country to cheaper countries in Southeast Asia. Most of the Southern Islands have also failed to prosper, with incomes having remained stagnant for the past twenty years.

LGBT Rights: Same-sex marriage is banned in Lamarna.

2018 Constituency Map [these are places you can pick to campaign in, as well]

In addition to the 58 constituency seats, there are 129 members elected on a national proportional ballot.

What party would a left-wing populist with a traditionalist bent go with?

Democratic Labour seems like a solid choice. If you don't feel comfortable there, you could always form your own party, though it's a bit more difficult.

What about a person who's center to center-right economically, right socially, and left on the environment?

New Alliance, most likely.

My question is, what IRL language is this?

It's based loosely on Samoan, Hawaiian, and a bit of English. Mostly nonsense.

What districts do you think are best suited for support for the Progress party?

Most urban and suburban districts, aside from Morganville, are probably a good fit. Blacksburg or maybe Winter Park? It's also possible to be a List MP instead of one from a constituency.

What districts are best suited for support for the National Party?

Rural districts in the Northern Islands. Weald, perhaps?

Here's a question; since we have two people each for three parties so far, are you going to collaborate or challenge the other person for the leadership of the party?

Socialists - GoTFan and Chris Murphy 2020

Nationals - Cactus and Yankee

New Alliancites - Diptheriadan and wxtransit

What party would best fit a left-winged populist who supports feminism but does not support Marxist-Leninism and Anti-Americanism?

The socialist party seems to be a good fit but I know there are already two members in the socialist party.

It’d be cool if you could do Ocean & Sky.

I was hoping for at least a person for each party, but I guess that’s a bit too much. I’m thinking sign-ups will be open for 4-5 more people.

I say we go ahead now and leave spots open for people to join as the game progresses.
I agree.
I also agree.

Alright; once Tim finishes his candidate, we'll begin.

What's the map from the previous election? Also, could you give a brief description of the politics in different parts of Lamarna?

Seats before the elcetion:

The South is, in general, much more economically left than the rest of the county while being socially moderate.

Alberton has a mix, but is rather cosmopolitan in its beliefs. Sunderland is a bourgeoius suburb, while Morganville has a strong working class tradition.

Suburbs, in general, are more economically liberal. Urban areas differ economically, but usually socially liberal.

The far Northern Islands used to be Labour strongholds but have shifted toward the National Party lately.

NA - 18%
Socialist - 15%
Republican - 13%
Progress - 9%
National - 9%
O&S - 6%
Anticap Action - 5%
Others - 4%

Yeah; the government was a grand coalition of the four largest parties.
