I don't know what President Obama was thinking picking Chuck Hagel to be Defense Secretary in 2013, but I for one am glad he did. The way he was forced out on the other hand...
Hagel was vocally against the Iraq war towards the end of Bush's second term, so the calculus was probably to pick a prominent anti-war republican and dare Republicans to block him. At least that's how I see it!

Edit - this was meant to be a skip. Sorry, FairBoi. I don't really understand the first two lines. Second two are good quotes and are vague enough so that people of any political persuasion could find something to like in them.

Your timelines are really well done. I appreciate the detail and thought that goes into them.

Meh candidate. And because I'll get comments, my explanation is that I fundamentally oppose "celebrity" politicians of all stripes shooting directly for high office.

I don't really understand it, but Batman is pretty good, so FS I guess.

I hadn't heard of PI prior to clicking on your link. Looks like a good product. As for your 1992 PI scenario, it sounds intriguing. It's neat that you're creating something like that. Genuinely, best of luck to you!

I'll admit, I'm confused by it but I do like the message it conveys.

Decent set of endorsements, but what made you drop Rauner?

Decent set of endorsements, but what made you drop Rauner?

His support for the death penalty and refusing to endorse a Democrat over a literal nazi (whom he dennounced, to be fair). Pritzker also looked better than I thought when I took a closer look at him. Still not the best candidate, but his actual positions are pretty solid (I thought Daniel Biss was the best candidate here).

Totally reasonable Smiley . Either way, the governor's race here is one of the worst votes I'll have to cast. We agree on Dan Biss, too.
