The plague of HIV haunted our nation throughout the 1980s and 1990s and even if it is now a treatable disease, the effects of its terror are still with us. Around 1 out of every 7 people with HIV doesn't know they have it. Medications such as PREP can reduce the odds of a person becoming infected by HIV. If more people took it, this disease can soon become a thing of the past. This bill should also remove much of the stigma surrounding HIV, much of which was rooted in already-existing prejudice especially against gay people. Passing this bill would be an important step forward for reducing and ultimately eliminating the number of new HIV infections.
