He didn't have to report innocuous contact with the Russians. Only official sitdowns. There was no reason for the meeting in question to even be on his mind.

I mean that defense might work if we pretend that Trump's campaign affiliates didn't have contact with Russians when they hacked our election, if Comey had no reason not to disclose information about Sessions and Russia in an open setting, and if Sessions didn't recuse himself from the Russia inquiry to begin with.
