A win for Gary Johnson as a third-party candidate would have been him getting 5% of the popular vote to secure federal funding for the Libertarians. Also winning a state would have been a massive win for him the only state he could have conceivably won was his home state of NM but seeing how he only got 9% their IRL and 15% as a candidate for Senate I don't think he realistically could have done it.
