The rational: "Hey, if we temporarily eschew large gatherings & the like, coronavirus will spread slower."

The irrational: "EXCUSE ME, I WANT TO EXERCISE MY RIGHT TO ENDANGER SOCIETY!!!1!"

Government action ≠ authoritarian, but no matter. You reap what you sow. Don't complain about having a worse public health infrastructure than the rest of the developed world if you complain about "MUH FREEDOMS" every time our government attempts to make genuine inroads to improving society. (But then again, the U.S. does already rank reliably lower on freedom indexes than many "less free" societies.)

Assuming the government wants us locked up for over a year like the study from Imperial College recommended, all I can do is quote Patrick Henry:
"Give me liberty or give me death!"

A life without freedom and in total isolation is no life at all.

You don't have the freedom to give other people death.

You're really a bunch of brainwashed cucks aren't you?

Do you really accept being locked up at home for 18 months?

My God, this is how totaltarianism starts

What of the collective freedom of us all?

How are you free if you're elderly & a random infected person decides to go out & about willy-nilly & infect each & every person in their path, who will then go on to infect more & more people, who will then go on to infect even more & more people, & so on?

How are you free if you're immunocompromised & can't do anything to stop people from giving you this virus?

You don't have the freedom to sentence neither the elderly nor immunocompromised to suffer & potentially even die because, unlike you, society as a whole actually gives a rat's ass about preserving the collective freedom & has decided that more freedom is preserved by restricting your right to spread this virus than it is to allow it.

Off topic, but it’s kind of interesting how Biden supporters are simultaneously both the most, and least supportive of these shutdown measures.

So, a sign that democracy works rather well, even in the middle of a crisis.

Cool.

Lawsuits Swell as Owners, From Gun Shops to Golf Courses, Demand to Open
Quote
Some of those suing their state governments seek redress for specific, local grievances, as with the golf course or in a similar suit in Pennsylvania being pursued by a company that says it is the country’s oldest manufacturer of orchestra-quality bells and chimes. Those lawsuits and one in Arizona are rooted in the Fifth Amendment, which requires due process and guarantees compensation for property seized by the government.

Other constitutional amendments have been invoked in several lawsuits in recent weeks attempting to force open gun stores, or to argue that measures to curb the virus should not outweigh rights like freedom of assembly and religion.

Americans arguing for the right to commit societal suicide by greed and mass murder by stupidity is so perfectly in character. As a nation, we worship at the altar of Mammon, sacrificing our selves and the lives of our fellow human beings.

I'm not sure why you think small business owners are an amalgamation of Scrooge McDuck, Ebenezer Scrooge, & an '80s villain. Most are people who just wanna continue feeding their families. While I agree that they should remain closed, we should all try to have a little compassion for people whose livelihoods were just completely halted.

Regarding golf courses, I'm all for them staying open, so long as they do it right: pay online; no carts, everybody walks; the range is closed; the golf shop is closed, except to buy balls - again, pay with PayPal, Venmo, or whatever; use the flagsticks with the hole covered, & if the ball hits the cup, it's in.

It keeps business open & gives an avenue to be outside & "exercise" - it's walking 4 miles with a set of clubs on your back. Social distancing is practically an automatic with golf.

Seems weird the First citation was for an abortion protestor, Suspicious at the least and could show abuse of the order to go against certain types of speech, although not certain.

Literally warned on Wednesday before being ticketed on Thursday. But yeah, "suspicious" indeed. Roll Eyes
