I just don't understand how they decided it was still a good idea to go to a casino after seeing what happened to the Marlins: "I can't believe those idiots went to a strip club. Anyway, who wants to go to a casino?"

Ugh. Yadi, DeJong, and 5 other Cardinals players tested positive for COVID-19.

If Rob Manfred does not cancel the season, Congress should step in and do it for him.

Same with Roger Goodell and the NFL.

"Congress should step in and do it for him"

I am pretty damn sure congress does not have this power.

Congress has given itself all sorts of powers over the years that it doesn't actually have.

Even if Congress had this authority (they don't), a certain incumbent President would 100% veto.

The Cardinals will end up playing 5-inning triple-headers everyday in September Tongue

Tigers are up 5-0 with no outs in the Top 1 5 runs on 4 homeruns of the first 5 batters.

I believe this matches their entire home-run output from after the Castellanos trade last year.

In today's example of strange records that are almost certain to fall during this odd season of ours: Barry Bonds & Mike Piazza share the career record for most home runs in the NL by a DH, with 10 each. Kyle Schwarber has 9.

Congrats to Mariners along with Tampa Bay and Toronto Blue Jay's, whom share the team colors, they are the minor leaguers of the MLB and will never win a Wrld Series. If there is consolidation which will have to be considered due to ongoing Pandemic,  wouldn't mind seeing all 3 teams cut

The Blue Jay's have already won a World Series... Twice.

Tampa Bay is one of the best teams in the American League, and well yea the M's suck.

Listen, here: if OC says the Blue Jays have never won a World Series, then the Blue Jays have never won a World Series. If OC says Tampa Bay sucks, then they suck.

Who do you think you are, challenging the word of Atlas' lord & savior!?

I must have missed the memo saying OC is the lord and savior of this forum, given the lack of speaking in any intelligible language, let alone English.

Silence, heretic!

Lucas Giolito with the no-hitter tonight!

A walk to Gonzalez - his 1st of the season - was the difference between this & a perfect game.

Hate that, but what a great job.

Imagine telling Rangers fans a year ago that the 2020 World Series would be clinched in Arlington in the inaugural year of their new ballpark:

That's just stupid, Why have AL playoffs in NL cities and vice versa?

I don't think it's a bad idea, it's to make the sites more neutral since NL players play more in NL parks & vice-versa. This way, some teams aren't unduly given an advantage by getting to feel like they have home games or are playing at a park in which they feel comfortable.

Cardinals pull off first ever 3-2-8 double play
(that's firstbase to catcher to center fielder)

or How Bad are the Indians at Base Running

These 2 games have had some of the worst base-running I've ever seen, this one especially. Looking like some little-league stuff out there.

And with tonight's loss against the Marlins, the Washington Nationals are now 19-31 through their first 50 games for the 2nd year in a row, so it's confirmed: the Washington Nationals will be the 2020 World Series champions Tongue

The only team with a shot to beat the Dodgers is the Athletics, imo. Cali World Series incoming.

No point in even playing the postseason IMO, never forget that the Marlins have a 100% WP in postseason series Tongue

Marlins aren't gonna defeat Dodgers, the only teams that Dodgers lose to are AL teams due to DH and both leagues are using DH, which is to Mookie Betts and Seagars advantage, Betts is from the Red Sox, an AL team, Dodgers will win Weld Series. There's a lot of dislike for Dodgers due to fact Lakers are gonna win Title. But, look how many Boston won with Brady and Red Sox

Need I point out the Marlins have yet to lose a postseason series. Until such a thing happens, I will pick them to win the World Series every time they are in the postseason.

Won't happen, there is the DH and Mookie Betts is from Red Sox and did well with DH and won title in 2018, and Corey Seager is doing so well. Dodgers win Title just like LeBron will sweep the Heat

Dodgers are the Dodgers and will Dodger it up and probably choke like usual.

Curious if the Astros are psychologically hurt this season and somehow are already recovering in the postseason?

Also any chances of the Dodgers choking?

We'll have to wait 'til Game 7 of the Dodgers/Marlins NLCS to find out Tongue

Dread it. Run from it. Postseason fish magic arrives all the same, & now it's here.

Or should I say, the Marlins are.

As a Chicagoan, the Cubs are nothing without their roof top fans, they are gonna have to prove themselves outside the Cubbie, Marlins are gonna have to win 4 games, not 2, in the next round

A. The Wrigleyville rooftops were still allowing fan attendance.
B. The next series is the NLDS, so no, the Marlins will only have to win 3 games, not 4.

The Central divisions went a combined 0-7 in the Wild Card Round.  That brings up an interesting point of why the expanded playoffs were so important.  This season, the MLB was, practically speaking, 3 separate leagues (East, Central, and West), with no cross over, so we had no way of comparing region to region in the regular season.  There were three objectively terrible teams in the Central pod, arguably the three worst teams in baseball this season.  That allowed the other 7 to get into the playoffs even though the postseason results suggest that the Central teams were probably all overrated.  The Yankees, Astros, and Marlins all won series even though they would have missed the playoffs with a normal format at the expense of extra teams from the Central.

The AL Top 8 wound up being pretty cut and dry, so I doubt it would have changed, but the Giants and Phillies have real gripes that maybe they would have had a better record than some of the Central teams if a normal schedule was played.  But, the point of the expanded playoffs was to counteract that, so no one can say they weren't given a shot.

The flameout of all the Central teams has left a lineup that has a pleasing symmetry:

AL West #1 vs. AL West #2
AL East #1 vs. AL East #2

NL West #1 vs NL West #2
NL East #1 vs NL East #2

(Obviously) the first time ever* that all of the Division Series are, well, literal division series Tongue
