Also have Biden or Harris comment on this yet?

To my knowledge, Biden, Gillibrand, Schumer and Pelosi have all indicated support for the AG's investigation into Cuomo. (I'd imagine Harris is toeing the White House line, and staying quiet).

Psaki has dodged over whether Biden still supports Cuomo, but made comments about how she was personally uncomfortable with his conduct. I can't imagine she'd be allowed to voice that discomfort if the White House wasn't getting ready to put pressure on Cuomo to go (behind the scenes, mind you - I don't expect Biden to publicly call for resignation unless the situation spirals).

I wouldn't put it past Cuomo to defy the legislature and refuse to resign. Even Northam never got to this point.

In which case, they hopefully have what it takes to impeach & convict.

In Northam's case, both his potential successors had baggage revealed during the same time period (rape allegations against Fairfax, Herring's blackface scandal), and next in line would've been the Republican President pro tempore of the Senate (not completely sure, but didn't he also see a blackface controversy arising at that time?). This is not the case here, Hochul has been pretty much uncontroversial so far.

*The Republican Speaker of the House of Delegates, & I don't recall a blackface scandal so much as people just not wanting a Republican governor.

Also, new news:

Ralph Northam has forfeited the right to comment on any other Governor's scandals, quite frankly.

It was a quote by Cuomo about Northam from 2019.

Which makes Cuomo a hypocrite. Still doesn't change my feelings on Northam though.

Your feelings are fine but barring a misinterpretation on your end of the initial tweet which I shared, they're wholly irrelevant to the conversation at hand.

Literally no one on this site likes Northam

I'd go as far to say that not a single person on the planet earth likes Northam.

I feel like Ralph Northam would beg to differ Tongue

Yeah, but he not only told Stewart-Cousins directly before she released her statement that he wasn't quitting & that they'd have to impeach him if they wanted him out of office, but then called legislators & the like to try & put a lid on any further statements, so the same principle presumably still applies.

What's the procedure for impeaching a Governor in New York?

The Assembly initiates it by a simple majority (76/150) just like the House initiates it at the federal level, & if approved, then it goes to what's called the court for the trial of impeachment, which is comprised of the State Senate minus its President (Hochul) & its PPT + the 7 judges on the Court of Appeals.

Also unlike the federal process, Hochul would automatically become Acting Governor for the duration of such a trial.

is it one man one vote for the state SC and senate to get to the 2/3 majority needed?

Yes, conviction is 46 members of the impeachment trial court: 2/3rds of the combined 62 Senators (all members of the Senate sans Stewart-Cousins) & 7 appeals court judges. Whether that 46 is fully comprised of Senators or 39 Senators & the 7 judges (or anywhere else in between) is irrelevant so long as 46 (or more) is achieved.

How does Cuomo survive the impeachment trial in the senate?

Switch party registration to Republican. Cut a deal with Trump to rally Republican support for him in exchange for a pardon. Then call in every last favor he has with NY Senate Democrats to get them to vote not to convict. I'm assuming he knows where the bodies are buried and can blackmail/intimidate/whatever a few people to vote in his favor.

That certainly wouldn't necessarily be a smart move, though, given that trying to do that to Ron Kim (& then some of the 55 legislators who put that joint statement out) is what helped spiral into this whole mess in the first place.

How could Trump pardon him?

Cuomo would be the one pardoning Trump for state-level charges.

For sure things can change, but as we speak, I think Cuomo resigning or being successfully impeached is somewhat less likely than Cuomo still being gov in January 2023. Needless to say how embarrassing that is. Believe me, I really want to wrong here.

Is there an impeachment vote scheduled?

No, the Assembly Judiciary Committee is still in the inquiry stage, & the Speaker is ensuring that it moves at a snail's pace.

Is the speaker a fake? he called for resignation

I think he just stopped at resignation and said something like Cuomo should ask himself whether he can effectively govern. Senate pro tem Andrea Cousins called for his resignation.

Yeah, & he just selected a law firm with major ties to Cuomo & his officials to help conduct the inquiry without even notifying any members of the Judiciary Committee (i.e., the ones who are supposed to be in charge of the inquiry) prior to doing so. He's evidently just slow-walking it & hoping it bides Cuomo time to survive.

If Cuomo is on the ballot in '22, does the NY Green Party gain in numbers as a leftwing protest vote?

The WFP nominating somebody like Jumaane Williams would be a better avenue on that front.

Y'know, f**k Andrew Cuomo. He's most assuredly guilty of just about everything which he's been accused of, he basically sentenced people to die in nursing homes & then lied about it, he's nearly as arrogant as - if not moreso arrogant than - Trump, etc. But if this is the particular kind of sh*t that the NY state Republican Party's gonna be putting up to run against him after all of that, then allow me to be among the first to congratulate the Governor on his landslide re-election victory.

I’ve heard Cuomo may resign tomorrow. At this point it’s more interesting who Kathy Hochul will appoint as Lt. Governor.

From where? As much as I’d like that to happen I very doubt it will.

A county dem chairman, who says he’s hearing this from his counterparts. Of course though I wouldn’t be surprised if he held out longer, but his days are numbered for sure.

I still doubt he resigns. The legislature is going to have to impeach him.

Ehh you could be right. I just think he’ll resign before he gets impeached.

I can't see him stepping aside. His ego is way too big.

FWIW, former aides believe that a resignation at the last possible moment before the vote to impeach is on the table.
