Anyone been able to verify this NBC reporting?  Was just looking on their Twitter page and am not seeing them tweet about it...haven't checked their website yet.

I just presumed that the tweet was referring to something being verbally reported on MSNBC.

I'm still going with Warren.

Let me lay it all out:

- she's a key policy advisor, what with the week-ish or so chats with Biden to talk policy;
- her policies & rhetoric have been adopted by Biden;
- she's worked closely with Jill on child-care policy;
- she raised the 2nd-largest sum of money from a large-donor fundraiser;
- she's by far his best grassroots fundraiser not named Barack Obama;
- she was picked for a last-minute grassroots fundraiser that brought in $1.7M from 50,000 people in only 3 days;
- she polls as a (if not the) top choice for running-mate when the electorate is polled;
- she compliments Biden & shores him up by being the top choice for voters more skeptical of Biden;

If any other potential running-mate could say all of that, then not only would they be the odds-on favorite but it'd be all but a literal coronation. To collaborate with anybody to that degree, take their ideas & praise them for it - while not doing the same with any other potential VPs - & then choose somebody else would just be a really bad look.

Moreover, Biden said Obama gave him 2 suggestions for VP:

1. They have to be ready on Day 1; &
2. They should compliment him & have strengths where he has weaknesses.

If those are the 2 aspects Obama stressed to Biden, then it's hard to see any other pick really matching up.

As decision day nears, VP hopefuls rake in big money for Biden:

https://www.politico.com/news/2020/08/10/biden-vice-president-fundraising-392948

Quote
Biden first and foremost wants a governing partner. But fundraising prowess is unquestionably a plus.

[...]

Of Biden's prospective running mates, Sen. Elizabeth Warren has brought in the most money for him, totaling more than $7.7 million combined from a high-dollar event - which she vocally swore off during her own campaign - and a grass-roots event that drew 50,000 participants. She's also sent multiple emails to her own small-dollar list, as well as his. On Tuesday, Warren will host another event for Biden, alongside Rep. Katie Porter (D-Calif.), with tickets ranging from $250 to $25,000, according to an invitation obtained by POLITICO.

Sen. Kamala Harris - who headlined two fundraisers alongside Biden and appeared at several other events - has raised more than $5 million, according to a source familiar with the total. And Sen. Tammy Duckworth has co-headlined three fundraisers with Joe and Jill Biden, and appeared at other events, bringing in more than $3 million for the campaign.

For the VP hopefuls and their donor backers, hosting events that generate eye-popping totals is "a flex," or a means of showing off their political muscle, said one Democrat affiliated with one of the considered running mate candidates. Another Democrat aligned with a different VP contender called it a "measurable sign of enthusiasm behind certain people."

Okay but seriously, after 2 full pages, this pretty important question has still yet to be answered:

My understanding of the wording of the August 10th deadline was it was for picking the VP (which has probably happened), not announcing them.

In my head, I just keep repeating "it has to be announced by August 15th at the absolute (realistic) latest" like it's a mantra. If he delays even further than that, though, then I might just end up bashing my head through a wall in frustration.

The tweet's inclusion of a clock would imply we're hours or even minutes (as opposed to a day+) away.

Just sayin'

Or maybe it’s just a generic symbol for time lmao. The campaign’s not speaking in code.

BY GOD, I THINK I'VE CRACKED IT! THEY'RE GONNA ANNOUNCE THE VP USING MORSE CODE!!

Not quite, depends on one's interpretation of the 12th & 22nd Amendments' precise wordings.

Harris never struck me as the vindictive type and honestly what purpose would unfollowing Biden on social media serve?  I wouldn't read much into this.

Not constitutionally eligible.

Not necessarily. The constitutionality is up for debate. We had a thread about this: https://talkelections.org/FORUM/index.php?topic=342226.msg7031969#msg7031969

Either way I was joking

He wouldn’t be eligible.

The constitution states: “But no person constitutionally ineligible to the office of President shall be eligible to that of Vice-President of the United States“.

Yup.  Pretty clear.  There may be a debate about this...but one side of that debate is just plain wrong.

Eligibility for the office & eligibility for election to the office are 2 different things, given that one can succeed to the office without being elected to it.

Did nobody teach you about how textualism works? Tongue

Yeah, I don't get the distinction.  Are you saying he can run but can't serve?

The opposite: he can serve, but not run.

He very obviously can't run for President again, that was made very clear by the 22nd. But he could arguably run for VP (& could also arguably be appointed VP under the 25th Amendment); in either instance, though, he could arguably succeed to the Presidency if it were to become vacant & thus serve out the remainder of that given term.

In any event, though, none of this is happening without a SCOTUS ruling on the subject, & that's never happening because a former 2-term President is never being picked to be VP.

No, the opposite.

How would that work, then?  He can't be elected but can be appointed if the office is vacated?  That would  mostly seem to be a distinction without a difference, for all intents and purposes, the majority of the time anyway.

Until the Supreme Court (hypothetically) rules on it, it's a major distinction - constitutionally speaking - because one can obviously succeed to the Presidency without needing to get elected to it.
