If Graham is appointed Attorney General after the midterms... its the perfect opportunity for Haley to secure a job in the public eye for the next 4 years until its time for candidates to announce in 2022 (for the 2024 election).  Especially if Nikki thinks Trump may lose re-election (meaning she would be out of the public light from 2020-2022).  IF Senator in 2022... Haley would have Governor, Senator, and Ambassador to UN... and would be a very strong contender to be the Republican nominee in 2024.  (And she would almost definitely choose Marco Rubio as her running mate).

So- is she a big enough threat for Dems to think about choosing a 2020 ticket that would withstand a battle against Haley/Rubio in 2024?

Why is such a question so crazy?  Haley/Rubio ..or Haley with whoever is very likely to be a strong ticket in 2024.  A bit of forward thinking Defense mixed in to any strategy is never a bad thing.

There are better reasons for the Democrats to nominate a woman. Anyway, Nikki Haley is not going to be the nominee in 2024. I feel fairly secure in saying that. She will flame out spectacularly and is already pretty irrelevant now that she resigned as UN ambassador. Being associated with the Trump administration won't be enough for the post-Trump GOP. She isn't a "rising star" in the party anymore. Republican primary voters in the GOP nomination for President rejected all of their "rising stars" in 2016, so I don't see why that also wouldn't be the case in 2024. Haley will be a female Rubio.

I started this post somewhat serious/ somewhat not ... although it is something that did pop into my head (that Haley may be someone hard for Dems to beat if she gets the nomination in 2024- esp if she picked Rubio as her running mate... which is who she will pick if she gets the nomination).

But regarding being irrelevant... although we will have to see- I think she will be appointed Senator before the year is over (to fill Graham's seat)....I strongly think that Graham will be appointed Attorney General ... (or although much less likely, even SOS if Pompeo got moved to Atty Gen).

Many say "Graham has no interest in giving up the Senate just for a 2 year stint as Atty Gen" ...but he wouldn't be giving up the Senate if behind the scenes conversations/ agreements have taken place.  B/c the Senate appointment would be for 2 years ... at which time (2020) Haley would not run for re-election b/c everyone knows she will be announcing a Presidential bid in 2022.  Therefore, Graham would just slip right back into his Senate seat (which he would easily win in SC...as Trumps new best friend).

If this did play out- which may be a stretch- but the timeline for Haley & Graham fits if they wanted to... Then Graham would get a free hiatus to be Atty General... and Haley strengthen up here resume for a Pres bid (Governor, Senator, UN Ambassador ... pretty strong resume).
