The GOP-e has to come to terms with the fact that its current base isn't going to show up for low turnout specials, primaries, and off-year elections. The voter suppression scams of 2010/2014 won't work -- they need to target higher turnout elections.

This was a very high turnout election.
For one side. The GOP's game in the past was to try and prevent voters from showing up to polls. VBM is the great equalizer. If republicans can't get WWC and rural voters to turn out on election day, they can't win any close races.

Also, they need to stop running on abortion. It's a major loser.

I want the Bush coalition back . The coalition where we didn’t need to win WI/MI/PA to get to 270 .
The country is less white than it was in 2000/2004. Bush loses both of those elections with the same crosstabs by demographic.

Name a more Republican thing than finding a way to ignore voters once they vote against you.
Every race in a semi-close state in which abortion is perceived to be on a ballot is a near-guaranteed loss for republicans.

Or maybe encourage their voters to use VBM as well, rather than telling their own base to not vote early. In places like GA their efforts just ended up "supressing" their own base more than Ds
I don't trust VBM worth a damn, but if I was running the party I would definitely push to have ballots sent out automatically.

Realistically, they need to maximize election day turnout foremost.

While I don't think pro-life laws are a lost cause long term (or even short term in the South), it's clear that the midterm/off year electorate is reacting to Dobbs as if Republicans controlled the federal government and just passed major controversial right wing legislation, despite the president and congress at the time being Democratic.
This is an underrated and brilliant post. Voters like the party out of power, only when they're not *doing anything controversial*. Usually when you are out of power, your political capital is limited, and you can't pull this kind of nonsense. Same reason the GOP faced blowback during the Clinton impeachment.

Also, the biggest misconception/lie about the 2016 election is that Trump was the only Republican who could have won the Rust Belt/Upper Midwest states. This rewriting of history (to which the media contributed in a shameless manner) only exacerbated the devotion to Trump as a political figure and made Republicans double down on their worst elements, missing the forest (Trump's consistently absymal favorability ratings) for the trees (fabricated propaganda about Trump's "unique strengths" as a candidate).

The truth is that Republicans never needed Trump to win the 2016 election. In fact, he was one of the very few Republicans capable of losing it (and nearly did).
Sanders polled better in the general vs republicans than Kasich did in the general vs democrats. Both would've lost in landslides if they won the nomination.

Blaming Trump and his voters might sound like an easy band-aid fix, but doesn't hit at the core problem: conservatism is unpopular.

But Trump WAS the only Republican who could turn New Mexico, Colorado, and Virginia from competitive states into solidly Democratic states.
The trends that turned New Mexico, Colorado, and Virginia blue are the same trends that turned Iowa, Florida, and Missouri red. Demographics are destiny.

Tonight, the people of Wisconsin won reproductive justice and a chance at having a real democracy.

Goodness won today.
At least you're finally admitting that abortion is why the GOP loses races.

When the hell did I of all people deny this lmao
Every time I've blamed abortion for costing the GOP in a race, you're quick to pivot to 'election denial'.
