Morning, y'all!

Hope everybody has a lovely election day! Please make sure to go vote! I'm planning to do so in a couple of hours after the coffee has hit (no, the coffee hasn't hit yet, this is non-caffeinated PQG).

Did you decide who to vote for in the Senate race?

Yup! Or at least it's a strong lean at this point.

If I may ask, who are you leaning towards?

Holding that one close to my chest.

Back to the results thread: I'm going into mom mode and imploring folks to be kind to each other.  Tensions will run high, but there's no need to be nasty.  If your predictions were spot on, great.  If they were wrong, it's okay.

As I said in another thread: yes, these elections will have real-world consequences.  Yes, it's stressful.  But take at least a moment to appreciate that in a little under twelve hours, we're gonna have new numbers to play with and obsess over! It's election day in America -- we only get so many of those in our lifetimes!

Looking forward to the festivities tonight! Lezzgo!

Well said!

Just voted. 12 minutes from when I left my house to when I got back. Sometimes living in a small town is convenient.

Nice!  I voted early (well technically it's early mail/absentee, but here you can just go to the courthouse, vote and put the ballot in the provided envelope, and then drop it in a box and they'll mail it for you, so basically just like early in person voting even though it technically isn't).

No one at my polling place when I went to vote around 10am this morning.

Not really surprising...our only election is an ultra-safe R House seat; I literally filled one bubble for a sacrificial lamb Dem.  At least my vote counts for the House NPV!

I voted Libertarian in my state's House race (no Democrat).

There tend to be a lot of local races around me with an unopposed Republican, so I usually write myself or family members in.

There isn't a write in vote option in South Dakota, unfortunately.

Do y'all ever actually do anything right out there? Tongue

Typically no.  I mean, have you ever heard of our governor?  Haha.

Is it just me, or is anyone else more bullish on NV but more bearish on AZ than they were a few days ago? (from a Dem hold perspective I mean)

Same timewise, placing my order around 7:15 Smiley

Two larges for my roommate and myself (we love leftovers), one cheese, one pepperoni.  Got the wine at the ready, too.

Local place or chain?

I just don't understand how the democrats loosing a federal office they've held for almost 30 years isn't a bad sign and indicative of a very republican enviorment. Swings in seats considered safe can be random especially small ones. The texas 27th district had a pretty random swing uncorrelated with the national enviorment, but that doesn't mean if the republicans took the district it would be a catastrophic sign for the democrats.

Honestly, I think accepting the results now is the best way forward. That way you're prepared to recive them when they come and if you turn out to be wrong you just get a pleasant suprise instead of dread.

You've made your opinion known.  No need to keep repeating it.

Let's hope so.  That was the most terrifying four minutes of my life!

Hard to judge from turnout reports, but...did literally anyone have Barnes and Masters both winning?

It was in my range of possible outcomes, as I was generally pessimistic about the sun belt but becoming a little bit more optimistic about the rust belt, but I definitely didn't have it as the most likely scenario by a long shot (remains to be seen if it will happen, of course, just speaking hypothetically if it does happen).

I probably should just do something else until the polls close, but I can't help myself.

I'm gonna take a break in a little bit to go try on pairs of jeans to see which ones still fit (help) and then throw on a couple episodes of Impractical Jokers while I do a bit of tidying up.

Mental breaks, people.  No matter who you're rooting for tonight.

I'll probably watch an episode or 2 of Gilmore Girls for a mental break later.

It's been clear for several weeks that the GOP is going to win both houses of Congress.

If one of Warnock/Fetterman/Barnes wins I'll consider today successful enough under the circumstances.

I would be so happy if Ron Johnson lost (not that I think he will).
But why? He's awesome a fascist nutjob.

I think we all know that it's going to be a bad night, it's just that the results for a non-voting delegate in Guam (especially when Democrats did well in other races there) aren't a sign of it.

Why would Republicans winning be “bad”?

I'm not him, but I'll guess that it's because he's a Democrat and wants Democrats to win. What kind of question is that?

He said that as if it was an objective fact, not his personal opinion.

Usually when someone says that something is "bad" or "good" the unstated assumption is that they are stating an opinion, seeing as how "bad" and "good" are (typically) subjective terms. The way he used the word was perfectly understandable.

In politics, especially in the modern era, the lines between what people consider to be their “subjective” opinions versus “objective” fact are often very, very blurred.

What a weird, nitpicky thing to latch onto.

Alright y'all, time to go squeeze myself into half a dozen pairs of skinny jeans to see which ones still fit and then throw on some Impratical Jokers while I do a bit of cleaning.

Be back in a bit! Be kind to each other please please.

That ain't good news for Dems there.

Told you. Dems can’t win in Georgia… been telling anyone who will listen for the last 2 years

Um, do I have to remind you how wrong you were about Georgia in 2020/2021 and have no credibility whatsoever on the state?  I'd just keep my mouth shut about Georgia going forward, if I were you.

Warnock +3 in Fulton County compared to his 2020 margin with around 60% in according to ABC.

Lol Warnock is up by way more than 3% in Fulton County.

Seems like relatively strong turnout out of Fulton County too.

3% ahead of his margin in 2020, he means, not leading by only 3%.

Joy Reid is straight up lying about Miami-Dade trending R "for a very long time." Lol no it hasn't! In 2016 and 2018 it was a massive win for Dems. There was a sudden, dramatic shift in 2020 almost incomparable to anything else.

Right.  HRC overperformed Obama in the county in 2016.

LOL at all the red avatars from Midwestern and Northeastern dumps coping by spamming the Bugs Bunny Florida GIF

"How dare this growing, diverse state not vote for us?"

Nothing takes away our appeal as one of the most popular states in the country that is one of the best states to live in

People on Atlas think your state votes the wrong way, so all of the nice things about it are invalid. Don't worry too much about the takes of political nerds.

Not so. I love states like Wyoming, Montana, Alaska, North Dakota, South Dakota. I just don't like Florida at all.

I can vouch for South Dakota being a perfectly lovely state, just with horrible politics.

They should have called Florida 20 minutes ago.  It's over.

Polls haven't closed in the central time zone part of the state yet...

Even though I could use DDHQ or NYT for results, I prefer to watch it on a major network for the true experience.

Same!

We're back.  Pizza is on the way.  Just running through the posts I've missed, some really interesting stuff pending.  That Ohio exit poll can't be anywhere near the mark, right?

Welcome back!  Had some pizza awhile back as well, pepperoni and mushroom for the win.
