"Welcome to a long history, everybody !"

We've got 2 survivors on Conservative and Labour leaders. I hope this one will be a bit less partisan (and that Nick Clegg won't be ousted in the first round... Tongue If you read each name of this list, you'll see that there are at least some minor names in current LP and SDP who can go before him, e.g. Wink).

I've included leaders of the Liberal party from the moment where we can find an "official" one.
I've included all the small outlets of this SD and L movement, so that we can have fun remembering that there is still a Liberal party and that the post-Alliance melting hasn't convinced everyone.
I've included acting leaders, when they are not just interim ones (fine to have the opportunity to oust or support Cable, isn't it ?).

I hope you'll enjoy this survivor.

Liberal Party (historic and maintained):
Herbert Henry Asquith (1916-1926)
Donald MacIean (1919-1920)
David Lloyd George (1926-1931)
Herbert Samuel (1931-1935)
Archibald Sinclair (1935-1945)
Clement Davies (1945-1956)
Jo Grimond (1956-1967, 1976)
Jeremy Thorpe (1967-1976)
David Steel (1976-1988)
Michael Meadowcroft (1989-2002)
Mike Oborski (2002-2005)
Steve Radford (2005-2009)
Rob Wheway (2009-…)

Social Democratic Party (first and second incarnations):
Roy Jenkins (1981-1983)
David Owen (1983-1987, 1988-1990)
Robert MacIennan (1987-1988)
Jack Holmes (1990-1991)
John Bates (1991-…)

Liberal Democrats (whatever their name, Alliance, SLD, LD):
David Steel (1987-1988)
Robert MacIennan (1987-1988)
Paddy Ashdown (1988-1999)
Charles Kennedy (1999-2006)
Menzies Campbell (2006-2007)
Vince Cable (2007)
Nick Clegg (2007-…)

Rules will change in each round. Each round is open for 24 hours+.
You can change your vote only before another forumer votes. If there is a mistake in your post (e.g. a vote for a leader already eliminated: then, just vote another time).
We'll eliminate one leader in each round.
In case of a tie, the leader who has received the biggest total of votes in previous rounds will be eliminated.
In case of a new tie, I'll decide who is eliminated.

ROUND 1 is now open !

In this round, you have 6 points, to cast 3-2-1.
Vote away !

OK, guys, John Bates is a non-person (when you see the official SDP website... ROFL).
So, I've chosen to pick a photo of Diana Rigg, as she was dressed by another John Bates (the only one who is known...).

Don't forget your "keep" votes.
But maybe you prefer waiting a bit (no rule forces to cast "eliminate" and "keep" vote in the same post... Wink)

Eliminate

Keep

Which one has 2, which one has 1 ?
I don't know precisely and it affects the final result.
I'll wait a bit.

OK, I'll count this as just one vote for each: we are sure that it was the minimal intention of Dr. Cynic and we are only sure of this.

Mmmm... the turnout begins to be a bit erratic...

Eliminate Owen

Keep Steel

(hoping, in a way, that the turnout won't rise in this round and threaten Jenkins, making my keep vote a big mistake...)

(I must acknowledge I vote for Owen more because of Yugoslavia than because of its leadership. But I take comfort from the fact he was ALSO a poor political leader !)
