Time for new survivors !

More technical, less political (or not ?), more interesting...

Simple rule: vote for the president you want to eliminate.
Each round is open for 24 hours+, except round 1 which will be longer, to let you some time to read upon them if you don't know everything of each one of them...

(And don't forget to vote in my 20th Century History Makers Survivor, in History board !)

1. Eric Drummond (LoN) 1920-1933
2. Joseph Avenol (LoN) 1933-1940
3. Sean Lester (LoN) 1940-1946
4. Trygve Lie (UN) 1946-1952
SURVIVOR !5. Dag Hammarskjöld (UN) 1952-1961
SURVIVOR !6. U Thant (UN) 1961-1971
7. Kurt Waldheim (UN) 1972-1981

9. Boutros Boutros-Ghali (UN) 1992-1996
10. Kofi Annan (UN) 1997-2006
11. Ban Ki-Moon (UN) 2007-...

Results:
round one: Avenol 9, Lester 3, Waldheim 1, Lie 1
round two: Waldheim 6
round three: Boutros-Ghali 2, Lie 1
round four: Lie 3, Drummond 2
round five: Drummond 3, Lester 1

One thing, Fab, why didn't you included Gladwyn Jebb? I know he was interim first UN Secretary, but I also think he should be there
He was more the secretary of the first assembly, really a transitional one.
I thought I would have had more critics for including him than for excluding him Wink

OK, you can change...
all the more that I'm changing myself Grin
Yeah... I wanted to vote upon reality of League's work. In that sense, Lester was worse.
But, well, the Survivors are also on personal matters.
So,

Avenol.

Boutros Boutros-Ghali, indeed

Inefficient, unethical, hypocritical, utterly coward in Yugoslavia and Africa.

He trumpeted he was the Third World voice, but was instead well pleased to take big positions with industrialized countries' support.
He wanted to be seen as a clever guy, with great culture, but he eventually befriend many of the new dictators of the post-Cold War era.

Drummond

The time was tough, but the organization itself didn't work well.

Personally a good man, but the League was completely powerless at the time.

not exactly a brilliant one, though he tries...

Perez wasn't a good one but he took a BIG advantage from the international situation which was especially good for the UN, especially with Gorbachev and (the first) Eltsin.

U Thant was appreciated by many, but that's not automatically a sign of being REALLY good.

Annan was here to reform and he reformed few things.

So, it's open !

U Thant is out.
So our final will oppose the unsurprising Dag Hammarskjöld, almost a myth, to Javier Perez de Cuellar, UN General Secretary of the end of the Cold War.

ROUND TEN IS OPEN

You vote for the UN General Secretary you want to ELIMINATE.
