From what I understand the main focus for the NJ GOP is protecting Lance and MacArthur, and keeping NJ-11 close. They've completely given up the 2nd district (and the 5th, since Gottheimer is going to coast to re-election without breaking a sweat)

This is probably New Jersey's least diverse district, so it might not hurt Grossman as much as you would think. But Van Drew could still probably use this to his advantage and win as comfortably as he was already expected to.

Wouldn't the 4th be the whitest district? The 2nd district does have Atlantic City and several other majority-minority towns

Be surprised now, but this is the GOP’s future. Their campaign slogan already may as well be “Diversity is code for white genocide.”

Even if there is a large segment of GOP voters who believe this, that will literally never be the party's longterm future, or it would die as a party.  If you want to bet on the GOP dying out, go ahead.  I'm going to go ahead and guess that the party loses a few times and is forced to adapt to a more diverse America.

But that's been what GOP elites have been saying for 20 years. And their party has doubled down on anti-immigration bait politics

Ugh, and of course Democrats in this prime pickup opportunity nominated a useless Blue Dog. Roll Eyes

This is a guaranteed pickup because of Van Drew. While he's entirely a Blue Dog, he's really well known & really well liked  in most of the district and won his state senate races by wide margins.  Outside of Atlantic City NJ-02 is very conservative and very white. Van Drew's advantages is what kept a lot of more well known GOP names out of the race, which is how we got Seth "Bring back the Chinese Exclusion Act" Grossman.

I don't like having very centrist pro-gun Congressmen, but to Van Drew's credit he has saved the Jersey Democrats a ton of money and resources they can use to get actual progressives like Sherrill, Malinowski, Welle and Kim elected in their respective districts.
