It should be illicit for college kids to have an ideology.

Iconoclastic and cynical, but sometimes his out of the box thinking brings to my attention something that had not occurred to me. Ascribing a traditional ideological category to him would be more misleading than enlightening.

Would "red Tory" be too basic of me to suggest?

Not sure. I don't know enough about it, and the devil is in the details. I also find that the more I know, the more I find that I know less than I thought. The accretion of awareness of one's own ignorance is a real "thing."

Overall has centrist instincts but can swing both ways from that depending on the issue. The descriptions of "Phil" above give me a headache. I finally was motivated to look up what "based" meant. However clever the term might be, he is not that way and is subject to persuasion. He has a judicial temperament, and is leery of grand unified political theories.

I more pithy description would be I am not really sure. When unsure, I just type out more words. It is one of my many character flaws, for which I have forgiven myself.

"Centered," both individually and personally. Perfervid change agents at the barricades are just not his thing.  What he does have is a judicial temperament, and that is meant as a compliment.

My opinion was of the penultimate poster above. The old man was too slow on the trigger, so Sir Greg interjected. Greg is right of center somewhere along the ideological food chain, for those into what is arguably a value low value added exercise, I think, but no need to rush to judgement on that one.

Fairly close to what establishment Pubs say behind closed doors. Granted the half-life of the definition of "establishment" Pub is volatile. That particular stock arguably is not "investable," and thus investing in it fails to meet fiduciary standards.

And now I get to find out who wants to take on the task of getting into what is going on in my brain. Or perhaps I will be the thread killer. God is great.

Gives strong "hippy who sold out" vibes. And I don't mean that in an accusatory way. Doubling down on the counter-culture in the face of the stagnant 70s and the off-ramp provided by Reagan didn't really lead to anything other than cults and burnout for most of that generation. I respect that he didn't complete the right-ward turn into the evangelical movement like so many children of the sixties, my grandfather included, did. Seems like a fairly libertarian, secular Reaganite who has no home in the GOP in the Trump era.

I really enjoyed your inferences of the "burnout" one. Most enjoyable was the hippie bit. How much of it is accurate? I leave that as a riddle within a mystery wrapped in an enigma.

Think about this one. A hippie within the establishment wrapped in a suit.

Oh yes, skip me. As to the poster above I am clueless as to what he believes except as to me.
He deserves better.

I have decided that using political labels is in general not helpful, and can be toxic, so I will merely opine that even while Fuzzy has quite a different world view from mine on a host of matters, he is considerably more "moderate" than most posters here would give him "credit" for. I suspect that has to do with his often confrontational posting style (he is hardly unique or unusual in that department), and the unpopularity here with the bulk of the posters as to his views about sacred matters.

As to my views, I have already told you that I have transcended ideology (aside for the moment from believing that Putin is Satan), but whatever. Resistance is futile. Smiley
