Horrible if true. But as far as I understand, it would be not illegal since the president as commander-in-chief is permitted to declassify secret information. Even if it’s politically very unprofessional and stupid. But I wouldn’t be surprised at all. Drumpf has proven several times that he has no competence and is in no ways up to the job.

It may be legal, but as Brittain33 noted, it certainly is potentially impeachable. I am not saying this incident deserves impeachment, but suppose, to posit an extreme hypothetical, Trump gave to N. Korea the US nuclear codes or something?  He'd be out the door in a hurry.

Hey guys, is there any way you can avoid quoting something that you know is wholly inappropriate, such as the comment that I deleted?  Just report it, as was done, and it will be dealt with. And issuing threats against anybody is a good way to get banned in a hurry. The subject poster had better not do what he did again. Thanks.

Ramesh Ponnuru at the National Review is trying out a novel line: this isn't the worst security breach in US history, so it is ok.

You heard it here first: Trump: not quite as bad as Julius Rosenberg.

So there is no need to execute him. Ramesh has a point there. Smiley

It would be nice if folks just were patient and did not mouth off on this matter, pending the emergence of the full panoply of facts. What's the rush?
