How can anyone listen to that conversation, with Trump directing Raffensperger to "find" 11,000 votes in order to overturn the election, and not believe that he did something criminal and utterly anti-American?

I mean, how can anyone not walk away believing Trump did something wrong?

This is a legitimate question, but unfortunately, if the polls are to be believed, we have millions of Americans who are convinced that Trump did nothing wrong and that the election was stolen.

It's because their value system has been distorted such that they believe that any action Trump takes is by definition legitimate because it was done by Trump.  Similarly, anything Trump says is by definition true because Trump said it.

Yes, this is certainly true. Trump has created-or rather encouraged-a cult mentality among much of the Republican base. Now, obviously there are some Republicans who aren't comfortable with this (i.e. the Republicans who voted for Trump's impeachment), but the vast majority are, and have decided to work within that construct.
