So this means the FBI now has access to every single email ever saved on the HillaServer, deleted or not, from 2008 (or whenever) all the way to two weeks ago.

Her primary means of communication for the last eight years. Any communication she or her staff have ever had with anyone. Countless thousands of emails that were long thought deleted. All in the hands of the Federal Bureau of Investigations.

I would have thought you would have read the article. They haven't recovered a single email as of yet, and will only be able to if the emails were originally stored on a location in the disk that has not been overwritten with different data.

Datto has been regularly saving off-site backups of the entire server for as long as Platte River has contracted with them. Given that Platte River had no idea this was happening until now, I believe it's safe to assume that Datto did not abide by Platte River's 30 day retention request. The FBI has everything for however long Datto has been putting these backups in the cloud.
