I think there's a comparison here with the last Presidential election. In the 2008 Democratic primaries, right wing groups focused a lot of attacks on Hillary Clinton, not because they supported Obama, but because Hillary was just so unpalatable to them. Now you have a lot of organizations going after Bachmann/Cain/Perry/Gingrich, not because they love Romney, but because they find the possibility of these other candidates becoming President to be horrible.
Also, Romney ran in 2008, so most of the anti-Romney stuff is still "out there" and well-known by insiders, rather than being any sort of breaking news. Also, he was preparing for this race long before the others, so he's naturally hasn't produced any big gaffe for the media to focus on.
So, yeah, I wouldn't assume Politico is pro-Romney, they're just a whore for readers/viewers/whatever like all other media.
